Depends on who earns it and for what reason:
1.For wealthy kids who are "backstabed" into these, just a paper.
2.For hard working and real learning kids, it has a much bigger meaning.
3.For those who try to show off with anything and everything, it's a highly regarded "prize".
4. For those who already work, and just need the degree for that job, it's just a "requirement".
I'm in the 4'th category, I worked in that domain, in that level of degree required, but the law said I need to have that diploma, so it (the Uni) was paid by my employer, just to be able to keep me.
Btw, in my country, if you don't have a University degree, you can't run any kind of Company, even if you got the money to open one or you already own one. You are forced by law to put someone with one form of University studies degree, regardless of wich, in your companies charge.
