You like using が, don't you?
It's most definitely は. As I stated at least a couple of times before, you need a
good reason to use が over は.
The only situation I can think of where you could say 「私
がアキコさんとはニューヨークで知り合いました。」 would be as an answer to the question "
Who got acquainted with Akiko in New York?"
Then again, if that were the case, I don't think anyone would repeat the whole question to answer it. We would just say 「私です」 instead.
You may be trying to learn a tad too fast though I hope that is not the case.
