Good catch! Sorry, that was my bonehead mistake!
Let me rewrite the sentences:
スミスさんのおかげでスペリングの間違いが直った。
努力したら悪い癖が直った。

Is it possible to replace "直します" with "直ります" for both the sentences above, and also, can I use "直ります" for fixing car, etc?

No, it isn't possible because 直す is transitive and 直る is intransitive.

It is alittle bit complicated because I understand that there is another verb called "修理します" (repair).
Are there alot of differences between "直ります", "直します", "修理します"?

修理する is a better word than 直す to say "to repair something that is out of order". The on-reading word is almost always "higher" than its kun-reading counterpart. That's how much we honor the Chinese culture.

Usually I would use "直します" when referring to correcting something like computer (programming), etc. And "修理します" when referring to repairing a car, computer (system), etc.

You are on the right track, then.
