It can be accurate... but very rarely is for language combinations like English and Japanese. The chances that it is accurate for whatever you are trying to translate are about 1 in 1000.

If the sentence is short, in perfect grammar, with absolutely no ambiguities, and something comprehensible in the other language... You have about a 25 to 50% chance of getting a fair translation (not perfect by any stretch, but at least able to be understood as close to the same meaning in the target language.)

The problem is that very very few people write things that follow the pattern above... Even the tiniest bit of ambiguity can turn the whole translation into something completely nonsensical.
