Japan theoretically atempted a third party through Russia, but of course since Russia was going to attack, that went nowhere. Other than that, the Military in Japan called the shots and they weren't going to accept the US "Unconditional" scenario. The Bombs gave the emperor the leverage he needed to push the Exstreamists into a corner. Even then, there was an atempted coo by the army.

There is also the possible idea the bombs were droped so quickly to get Japan to surrendor before Russian forces were fully engaged, because we had learned by then that Russia never gave anything back, and we didn't want a "Tokyo wall".

It's history anyway, it changed how the world does things, perhaps for the better, since there hasn't been a major war since then. All the other wars afterward, have been minor compared to WW2. The Bombs may not have ended all war, but up till now they have prevented World Wars.
