I don't really listen to Japanese music, but my actual introduction to it started with my introduction to Japanese (pop) culture itself. I was curious about a few things and one of them was music, so I just YouTubed something like "popular Japanese music." Morning Musume and AAA came up. I didn't like the music, but there was an amusing novelty of seeing cute Japanese girls dancing around singing god awful stuff. So I searched and searched and couldn't find anything I actually liked until I've finally settled on Capsule as a really cool electronica group.

Granted, I treat Japanese music just as fairly as other music. I don't really listed to a whole lot of music anyway, and normally I can't like more than a couple of songs from any given artist, so my iPod is full of singles. But there's something about Japanese music doesn't really appeal to me though. I'm not into the poppy stuff, and anything that might be considered rock or whatever I'd rather just listen to in English so I can at least understand and appreciate the lyrics. I'm sure Japanese rock has some really powerful stuff, but I don't find fun in forcing myself to try and like stuff I don't understand most of.

I'm not a cynic; I just like to play Devil's Advocate once in a while.
