My grandfather used to say we were Dutch-Irish - must have been his preference because later research proved this completely false.

My family goes back to the 1100's on the Isle of Mann and one of the temporary Scottish rulers. (Scotland & Ireland had a bad habit of invading the place back then.) There is also a bit of English, Welsh and strong lines of Cherokee. The only big surprises to the family tree were the discovery of some French and African, sometime in the 1800's.

Each member of the family claims their own favorites from this list, though. Most claim the Scot and Texan. My game room has a Manx flag, a Ferguson tartan, the emblem of the Cherokee Nation and the Texan Lone Star.

Only an open mind and open heart can be filled with life.
