Another big aftershock has hit.

I hope I'm wrong, but I wouldn't be surprised if the death toll reaches into the thousands. People here in Tokyo have died, and Tokyo is 250 miles from the epicenter, and there were no significant tsunamis here.

Scarcely a minute goes by without more shaking, and as I write I can hear the closet doors rattling. It can only be much worse in northern Japan.

US Army and SDF helicopters were headed to northern Japan within 30 minutes of the original quake.

As could be expected, there have been no cases of looting, and stores and shops have been giving food to those stranded at the stations for free. Highway and airport buses have been donated to help get stranded people home.
