"The world" is not a single person. All countries are in a catch 22 with their actions because there will always be more than one perspective on a particular issue.

Um.. GDP is irrelevant because the US GOVERNMENT owns the national debt not the country. What's more important than GDP is actual money that the US government has (or can make available) to spend (i.e. the budget).

GDP would only be relevant if the government taxed EVERYTHING 100%.
