I did not say "armed" I said backed; as in supplied the manpower which is why North Vietnam won. It had very little to do with armament and everything to do with "expendable" bodies to persist until the other side gave up. I am quite familiar with the weaponry, as I owned one of those rifles supplied by the USSR - acquired first hand in Vietnam in 1970.

And FYI, most people who experience an event high enough up in a command don't have to check abridged sources like Wikipedia.
