does it mean anything if a guy you've been going out with suddenly holds your hand? guy is japanese btw, he is nice but sometimes too serious. am quite surprised actually and I don't know what to make of it.. perhaps it's just nothing right?

updated to say thanks so far for all the answers and I got my answer from asking 3 japanese friends and they said usually they only do these things with a girlfriend or someone they want to be their girlfriend. Like, in their english, "maybe he is promoting himself to be boyfriend." hahaha
