No idea where they came up with the toilet technology. I think that one even has an FM radio because if you look at the sides of the controller it has little speakers.
The purification basin is at the entrance of almost every temple (Shinto and Buddhist from what I can tell) and you do this little ritual washing thing. There are ladels there for you to draw the water out, then you use it to wash your hands. Then the next part is to sip a little bit into your mouth (from your hands, not the ladel), swish and spit it out. Don't drink the water, some of these basins are like over a hundred years old. Not the water, but the basin may be dirty.
