Thus, I am reading 師搜 as the shortened form of 師団捜索隊. 師搜 is read as しそうand it means "armoured brigade".

Masaegu, THANK YOU for confirming my reading of 師搜 as しそう and for the translation to "armored brigade". It is a very critical piece into the research.

As for "団", I apologize for not being clear; I was at a break at work. The background is that I talked to my dad over the phone; he was in the US Military Intelligence Service and is able to read the old Japanese without any hesitation AND knows military terms even after all these years. Guessing, I was asking him for the military term for "brigade" or "division" and he said "shidan" using 団. My apologies.
