What substantial difference is there that makes British English so much harder to understand as compared to American?

Cause I can't think of many differences in language, other than the accent and a few words they use that are not used in American, but I can't see how that would be a problem once you learn them, really.

If you find it difficult to understand "what most British people try to tell you" when they are communicating in English, maybe the problem is you're not as good at it as you claim to be.
