Well, to be fair I don't know if it's
all public buildings, but I know with many restaurants they do, and I'm fairly certain for places such as schools and some workplaces . . . I'd be interested to know where the line is drawn too, like I can't imagine places like museums or cafes asking people to remove shoes, but you never know.
I don't think slippers are provided (from what I've seen), but it's best that someone who's been in Japan answers, because I only know from what I've read and seen on the media
