来る vs. 来る -

I just received an email from a Japanese-learner friend that included a question and I thought I might share it with you all as it is a good question.
The following sentences are both 100% grammatical and natural, which may surprise some of you. What does each sentence mean?
(Native speakers, please refrain from answering.)
1. 「このバンドは来年日本に来ると思う。」
2. 「このバンドは来年日本で来ると思う。」
Your Japanese proficiency shall be in direct proportion
to your true interest in the Japanese Mind.
