You've got it!

「来る」 in my sentence #2 means "to become popular or successful"

「このバンドは来年日本来ると思う。」 = "I think this band will come to Japan next year."
「このバンドは来年日本来ると思う。」 = "I think this band will be a big hit in Japan next year."

My friend had found the new meaning of 「来る」 in the following video and asked me about it. It is said at 0:37 by a Japanese comedian about a Korean girls band.
