I would advice on bringing the cash , its just a waste to pay those charges. You can either convert it to pounds in Japan first or you can do it in your country , whichever has the bigger exchange rate.
Whenever I go home, I bring yen with me, cause there are some exchanger back home with a bit higher rate than banks
so I can more on my yen
