as for me, i will try to answer the question with a question...If I become a parent someday, would i like my kids to respect me? Definitely YES! So i try hard to respect my parents even if they may not have been providing me with the best care, the best advice, the best life that money could buy...cuz they're the only parents i've got...I don't want my 'future' kids to remember me hating my parents cuz' they may hate me as well for that...for i'm pretty sure, i also won't be able to provide the best for them even if i want to...
