DatteBayo - That damn translation
 

Ok. I have seen alot of theories on the net of what Naruto says at the end of nearly every sentence, Dattebayo!
I hear alot of other characters in Naruto and other animes finish the sentance with Bayo or xxxxxbayo and it would seem that the general feeling is that this is an exclamation type word with no meaning but to give accent to the sentance.

Can anyone here clear up this strange saying dattebayo!

I suppose you could emphasize your will with that phrase.
So it's like "I really mean it", I guess.

It is the equivalent (for Naruto) of the englihs version's BELIEVE IT!

"Believe It!" would be what the english translators used to fit the lip sync. Many of the the things Naruto says that end with x-Bayo would not translate well with believe it attached. I have heard Bayo used in as many as five consecutive sentances in a row, that would be hard to believe ;)

It`s just over emphasis, and sounds very childish.

He uses it enough that I`d consider it a speech impediment.

Having never watched the show, I didn't want to venture a guess. It's good to hear a pro's opinion. That's no dialect I have ever heard.

I don`t watch the show, but the movie has been running on TV so many times that even only seeing 10 or 15 minute segments at a time, I think I have to have seen all of it at least 3 times.

He`s just sticking よ on the end of だってば, and using the だってば in situations where ってば would be correct. (Not that he ever uses it correctly, as he`s never repeating himself in the first place.)

That makes more sense seeing it in Japanese...

So are there any similar things like "Bayo" that the hip youth of Japan would use to tag onto their sentances for effect?
