That is a big problem. Especially to future artists like myself, I have always wanted to get published in Tokyopop, or some other manga publishing company.

It will be even harder to get in, and get a book out if they are doing all this cutting.

I really hate reading manga online, I'd rather buy the books and have something to show for it. I feel the same with anime. Besides, I also enjoy contributing to the artist's greatness, it is definitely a nice feeling having someone buy your work.

But yet it's so hard not too (read manga online), since all this stuff comes out way faster in Japan, everyone jumps on the scans and translate it right away. I really don't like it.

I admit that I read manga online but I also buy those few series that they publish here in Finland.

Even after they start publishing series I read online I'll keep doing it because I'd have to wait a long time to get to read something I haven't already read.

For example Naruto volume 4 just got out here when they are already at volume 43 in Japan. They publish a new volume once a month so it would take over 3 years until I would get to read something new. And at that time they would have gotten a whole bunch of new volumes in Japan and I wouldn't know what they are talking about on the few forums that I use.

You should be able to buy it online. I'm pretty sure there is a good site that will ship manga to Finland. That way, you don't have to wait as long.

some sites translate unlicensed manga and remove it once somone claims it dunno how serious they are but i know for sure that industry where i live have taken a big blow just cause they were too slow to start off, for about 4 years all we got was db, one piece, dnangel and like... ranma ½ yaaaaay...

damned shame about ppl losing their jobs tho :<

Here in the USA its a different story though, Most of the big titles are right on the heels of the Japanese counterparts, so its almost sad that people read and take in new chapters online, when they could just as easily go to the mall and pick up the new volume.

This issue is sad for me, because here in west Michigan, there is a place called Magnum Opus, who sells anime, manga, indie comics, and mainstream comics. I dont want to see a local buisiness decline due to publishers decline.

Publishers don't have a problem with sites that remove scanlations once they are licensed. It helps people get excited about new titles.

It's the sites that don't remove those titles that cause the problems...

I haven't noticed this too much with manga, but I have for anime. Like with the group, AQS, time something gets licensed that they were fansubbing or have fansubbed, they delete files and take stuff down and tell the fans to be supportive and to buy the works.

well we're lightyears behind... at least into gettin it texted to swedish ( which shouldnt really be a big problem...) so far we got like.. Studio ghibly stuff, spirited away, howls moving castle, totaro. Some very crappy db/z/gt stuff sailor moon and pokemon.

The gibly works are good but the rest is just horrible.

i should have around 120ish volumes give or take a few, most bhought from a store that imports from the us! <3

SSJup81 06-16-2008 02:55 PM

Oh, wait...AQS does do that with manga too! I forgot. Even though they scanlate Negima, once the chapters or whatever they've scanlated becomes available in the states, they delete the files.

Sucks you can only import this stuff, though. I'm really sure that if more titles were available in one's own country, that more people would buy it. I know for myself, I hate paying import fees. It's just so expensive and for one manga-book, seems that would be way too much to pay S&H on.

You could always shop around online for manga series and hope you can get a decent price on some titles.

Volume 8 of +Anima is coming out tomorrow, and instead of going out to B&N to get it, I'm going to get it through justmanga to see how it works through there, and if the pricing is better, etc. I do know that they do free shipping if you pay up to a certain amount..but I don't know about international orders.
