VampireGirl1314 01-28-2009 07:36 AM

and i learned that you could dress up as a guy and sneak into an all boys school and sleep with them when you cant sleep.:D
I also think that everything that is written in manga is a good way of teaching people about things and the way of life.>^_^<
And i learned how to win a guys heart and it worked.^_~

Read the rules.

You can learn a little Japanese and a little about school culture, for example, but it is best to double-check. Some things are limited just to that anime or manga, and may not be universal.

nobora 01-30-2009 02:28 AM

Yea~!! YOu can learn alot~!!

Like their customs and stuff.

ccppfan 01-30-2009 04:39 AM

I have learned a lot of ways to kill people. ;) Which anime, you ask? Detective Conan. DUH. :mtongue:

But really, I learned that you should kill someone in Japan someday, just to be arrested by Shinichi Kudo. :D

*shakes head and sighs*

Myself, I've learned from watching far too much anime just how valuable it is to be a good cook. And how anime has given me an appreciation of tea.

superheel 01-30-2009 07:15 AM

I really don't know. Anime only taught me that you can have a frying pan anytime if you want to hit a pervert guy in the face.

LOL yea that works~!

Omedetou 02-01-2009 03:05 PM

You can learn whatever the author is trying to relay.

Also alot of random facts can be found in anime, such as in Air Gear recently.
Fact: If Barack Obama were to have his body switched with a teen Japanese girl and stay in her body too long it would "Grow a mushroom".

Obviously good stuff their!

On a more serious note Manga is the same as any literatue if you actually look at the context of manga they are more along the lines of books than comics in the way most are written. ( Hence Graphic Novels )

Gackt21 02-05-2009 03:41 PM

Good Japanese grammar.

izzysparkle 02-05-2009 03:49 PM

I learned that bad guys can also be good.
even if it is to their own advantage.

Don't they use a lot of slang and "unofficial" literature in Animate and Manga?

You can probably learn some basic stuff off it, but I wouldn't use everything from Animate and Manga if you want to speak "properly"

alanX 02-05-2009 04:34 PM

Yes, the same way an infant learns its native language solely by hearing others speak it, Manga and Anima play an important role in those who wish to learn Japanese.

Hmm...I'd have to disagree with you. The Japanese that is used in Manga and Anime is actualy the most commonly spoken. It's the "casual" type of Japanese. Because you wouldn't go around talking to people like they're the president =PP

kyo_9 02-05-2009 04:52 PM

I've learn how to draw manga by reading manga.. lol

sakumi23 02-06-2009 10:37 AM

That will be like trying to run before you can walk. Slang is based on proper Japanese, not just random words. If you don't learn the basics, the only thing you will learn from anime is set phrases. You won't be able to think for yourself or express anything original in Japanese.

I'm aware of that but if you are trying to learn "proper" japanese you should also take online japanese lessons and use anime as an source so it can help you how to pronounce japanese words properly honestly atashi wa baka ja nai ^;^

So you're telling me that you should learn to speak a language extremely politely before learning how to speak it normally or casually? Not to mention, speaking "polite" Japanese takes lots more elongated pronunciation, longer words, more rules, and more exceptions.

It's much easier to speak casual Japanese than it is to speak polite Japanese.

tokyo88 02-06-2009 05:03 PM

Firas

yes sure i learned many new words by watching manga:D

You will trip up at the grammar. Japanese grammar is more regular when it is in the MASU form and it is absolutely everywhere when it is in slang. Slang changes from year to year anyway so its very tricky.

If you can't even get it right in the MASU form, you have no chance in slang Japanese? You should know this.

I assume you are having formal Japanese lessons.

You can learn loads of things depending on the manga.
From Fruits Basket I learned: how to make riceballs, some basic Japanese, and enough about Japanese schools to write a manga set in one.
From Death Note I learned: that the end doesn't always justify the means, humans are easily corrupted and no one person can decide what is right and wrong.

Three quoted posts and a reused pic.

To badly misquote the Captain Picard character: "Is there nothing of ThirdSight in what I'm seeing?"

ThirdSight 02-08-2009 11:39 PM

Overdone, I know, but I just couldn't contain myself Koir.

Threads like this make me realize all over again that there's very little hope left.

Next we'll be seeing a "Things I learned from Twilight" thread.

I feel like Nostradamus.
