Do you think their is a certin age that someone should stop watching anime
Do you think their is a certain age that someone should stop watching anime and going to anime cons
|
Yeah, once you start calling yourself an おたく you know it's time to ease up.
|
Even though I'm not into anime myself, I don't think there's like a certain age people should just stop enjoying something. It's all down to how the individual handles it. If you're in your 40s, work a minimum wage job, don't have a girlfriend and spend your Saturday nights watching the latest Naruto episode, then maybe it's time to kick the habit. But as long as you're being productive and recognize anime as just a hobby(just like anything else), then there's no reason why you have to put an age limit on it.
Cosplay is a whole other story though. Western cosplay is never cool. |
Why are non-Japanese not allowed to cosplay?
|
I don't think there is an age you have to stop watching. I'm nearly 40 and I'll still watch shows that catch my eye. There certainly is an age by which you should know not to bring it up to people who do not care for it or argue with people over likes and dislikes.
This is also assuming you have a job and a life and can carry on conversations about other things, obsession is never healthy. |

I don't watch anime but have seen plenty of animated cartoons etc usually Disney. I have a copy of FIREFLIES which shows about the effect of war on children. I feel that if anime can teach as well as just be fun-- then its good and a great industry surely for JAPAN.
Why should there be an age to stop any thing you enjoy? If it gives pleasure why stop watching? When there was a japanese festival here, there were some british people dressed in COSPLAY and most had made their own costumes. why shouldn't they try something that they admire and try to emulate? Many of the costumes were brilliant. I am surprised it is not global hobby, maybe not necessarily from MANGA or ANIME but anything that livens us up and gives a challenge to those who take part. Usually here in UK anything that is popular in America soon becomes popular in UK. Now why is that? |
No, i dont think so. My moms like 30 somethin and watches anime |
The real question is if we are too old to enjoy life, or laugh or even if we are too old to have fun or relax. Anime, like other things, is a way for people to take time to escape and creativly express themselves or relate to a positive or other type of fictional situation. Anime is no different than reading a Dean Koonze book, or watching a Clint Eastwood film. Its called passive entertainment, and should be respected for its ability to help or please people.
Do not watch alot of Anime, but when I do, its always enjoyable, so have fun and relax a bit, because you dont want to end up a serious person like me |
In Japan, people of all ages watch anime, and it's widely accepted. Don't see why it should be any different in other countries.

There's no age to stop to watch animes; it's ridiculous.
Old people think animes are made to children and idiot adults. |

Like other media, anime and things in Japan are age-orientated, most of it being aimed at school kids, and if you're still into kid's anime at university and beyond, that's a) Really Otaku and b) really juvenile. End of the day middle-aged naruto-holics and pokefans will only be truly accepted by other naruto-holics and pokefans and you can pat each other on the back and say it's ok as much as you like, for many non-invested people it's still rather like finding an office worker who only watches CBBC/Cartoon Network. Somewhat sad at best, and outright perverted at absolute worst. Unless, of course, the person in question works for CBBC/CN. As for 'grown-up' anime/manga, and the social acceptability thereof, well considering a lot of manga/anime aimed at adults is porn, that's a whole other kettle of fish to wrangle with. Not to say that you ~should~ stop, but after university age anything more than mere dabbling in it definitely stops being so much a simple leisure/hobby activity and the more it becomes a lifestyle choice, and like every other lifestyle choice, it comes with social limitations. |
No, unless it's affecting you in a negative way in direct relation to your age.
|
The definition of Otaku in Japan and in foreign country's are different.
Like in Japan its like a more hardcore nerd but around the world it's just used anywhere. But I dont think there is an age limit to anything, as long as you still enjoy it then anything goes. |
Unless you're going out mimicking what you're watching... No.
If you're going around swinging a sword and yelling "BACKLASH WAVE" for no apparent reason... Time to put it away. |
As with everything on TV, the producers, writers etc. will have a specific target audience. But generally, I feel you can watch whatever you want, as long as you enjoy it.
|
there is no age limit to like anime, I will be on my deathbed and still like anime

there should be no age unless as someone said its effecting your daily life then you should take a step back i mean be honest ;) which adult doesnt reminis when they see their favourite childhood cartoon on tv? heck i know i watch me some teenage mutant ninja turtle. you are never to old to watch cartoons/anime :D
|
As long as you're not trying to be "hip and cool" by watching anime, then I don't see a problem with it at any age. Though I kindly grew out of it when I turned 16.
|
I'm probably gonna end up like Yamazaki from "Welcome To The NHK!"
Well, least I'll be happy. |

No. At 29 I got into One Piece. I love the hell out of that series. I still love Sailor Moon. Honey & Clover has deep meanings. Nana reminds me of how stupid I got over men, at the same time it reminds me of how confusing relationships can be. I'm always at the Kinokuniya manga section looking for new series to get into. Age is nothing but a number.
|
I dont think anyone should stop doing what they enjoy just because of their age. As long as it isn't hurting you or others then it should be ok. Well Im 21 so I have a while until Im considered too old to do anything. I will always watch anime. Sadly, I haven't been to one convention...sigh..

To me, great anime are just more colorful actors and settings, with exquisite graphics; they ain't much different from life action movies. |
Depends on Anime.
Miyazaki's stuff can be watched at any age. But. I'm a bit too old for Macross. (Loved it as a kid!) |
To even consider an age limit is completly outrageous. Seriously.........
|
This is a loaded question. D:

Random Heartless Citizen: Cartoons, huh? Aren't you a little too old?
Me: Cartoons?! They are called Anime my good sir. There's a difference. Oh, and my answer to your other question is LA LA LA CANT HEAR YOU. LA LA LA CANT HEAR YYYOOOUUU!! |
