Oh yes, I know. At the end is the realization that Japanese language is more complex than most people thinking. Especially in terms of written language.

But on the other side I love it, that a lot people became more open for an other culture.

When was the beginning of the manga boom in the western culture? At the begining of the internet boom and at this time the internet was not so strictly regulated.

I didn't twist your words, I only quoted you. If people are turned off by manga because they have to pay for it, then they weren't fans in the first place.

These days most publishers have sample pages of new titles online, and you can sometimes see sample pages on Amazon. I am not talking about checking something out before you buy...I am talking about reading 10, 15, 20 volumes, thousands of pages. That's not a test drive...that's stealing the car.

And then they're like "You know, I'll just stick to English for a bit :S I'm not ready ^^".


Really pisses me off that the only reason they want to learn Japanese, is to watch anime without subs.

I completely agree. It isn't fair to those who create manga to have such low pay. Imagine if the ひぐらしのなく頃に franchise had more support.

When I was a kid in Seoul, I read a manga series that my friend bought with her money. I didn't pay any money to the manga or something; just borrowing it from my friend with no cost. Does that mean I stole that manga series because I didn't pay the service fee of reading it?

There's a difference in logistics though. In person, I would say that buying one manga and lending it around can get it to (if you're very liberal about lending things) 200 people as a very gracious estimate. On the other hand, people who buy manga and then scan it online are buying it once and giving it to *millions* of people.

Keep in mind, on JF posting links to these sites (One Manga is now down) is against the rules.
It is illegal because the general population gets it for free. The manga publishers makes more than enough money to really crack down on OM site. OM site is manga scanned online for others to view, but the original scanner had to buy it off somewhere.

OM's illegal action actually attracted more manga loves, it should have been viewed as a positive thing.

It is such a shame that OM was taken down. Though I was not a frequent scroller of that site, I do find myself there every once in awhile and always enjoyed some of the manga there.

OM being taken down makes me futher not want to buy manga at the stores. The thing is, if i really enjoy a manga serie, I would actually go out and buy them for collection.

But it's nevertheless stealing, right? Despite the logistics, there isn't a difference between 200 and a million. Manga piracy will still be here after OM dies.

Here are two solutions I can think of:
1) Make a paypal donation slot on the mangaka's website or blog.
2) Make a gigantic online manga website like BestAnime (South Korean anime manga website) that you have to pay for what you read.
