Cosplay

I don't think theres one up for this yet...
So here it is... i guess..

Anyone here cosplay?
If so who as ^_^?
Do you make it yourself or buy it ?

what do you like about cosplaying?
what dont you like about cosplaying?

I cosplay...
but i haven't done lots due to money...
it is a quite expensive hobby at times... (which is sometimes something i dont like...)
but most will agree that its worth it :p
<3

personally, i like cosplaying with my friends,
and going to conventions and seeing everyone's
cosplays, and how much they've worked on it..
how they did it and stuff..
AND POCKY <3
=3

it's nice to meet new people at conventions too..
when you are in cosplay group...

Anyone who likes cosplay?

I want to cosplay as an anime or game character in our Japanese Art Festival held by our school, but I still cannot make my decision which character shall I cosplay as. I just found 2 good choices: Lightning and Orihime Inoue , which one is better? How about your opinions?
Greetings.

fuu 09-28-2010 09:08 PM

I've done alot of cosplay and the way to make your choice is simple which one will be the most fun for you!!!!

Also think about hair colour. Your hair or a wig. as cost can be a factor as well. Do you sew or are you buying? I have done Orihime before she was fun!

manganimefan227 09-28-2010 10:52 PM

I'd do Lightning . . .Orihime doesn't seem like the funnest character to be . . .unless you plan to make a game of stalking Ichigo and yelling "KUROSAKI-KUN" every five seconds in a panick-y matter :p

Cosplay is actually a fashion now, isn't it? I hope it'll engulf the world and become an accepted and highly regarded global fashion scene. Many claim it to be pretentious and childish, but they don't know anything. :) Cafes that essentially offer anime-styled maid/butler services are now pretty popular, so there's some reason to get involved in the trend. Needless to say, anime conventions are quite a hit also. I saw some pictures on youtube and they're impressively realistic. Check out the Sephiroth one, I forget which videos they are (they should be by the same poster) but they're totally eye-candy.

Who cares what other people say? Cosplay FTW.

No, it's not.

Not gonna happen.

Swordmaster 10-01-2010 08:24 PM

I'm pretty sure you're making the mistake of calling the eccentric cosplayers.

Although, weird fashion is always cool fashion in my books - as long as it's not too crazy. Even I have my limits.

That's what you think. This isn't merely my opinion, go look it up on the net and you'll find some websites advocating that cause. I've justified myself with illustrations. If you wanna put me down, at least do the same, bud.

@Swordmaster Depends on who you see as eccentric and who's not. People who live as cosplayers? People who have their costumes on for more than a day? People who give out autographs because they're believed to be the epitome of the characters? Fashion is relative; that's something you gotta realize. I'd never call someone's fashion statement crazy, unless they obviously hurt others.

When I'll see professional models on a podium wearing costumes from anime then I'll agree with you. But for now, it doesn't matter how many sites advocate or how many pics are out there. Cosplay is just a trend in anime and video game fan circle and it will never be anything bigger than that.

A reply I appreciate a lot better. Thanks. :)

They don't have to be worn by models to be globally accepted. When I say globally accepted, it means that you can see a portion of each populace wearing them, every now and then.

I'm not actually basing my perspectives on sites and pics, I recently saw the cafe thing on local news and anime conventions are factual occurences you can't deny either. Cosplay is something that is impregnating the outside reality with its come-to-life fantasies, and its unique and radical outlook. As a fashion statement, it has to be somewhat appealing to young people, no matter how ridiculous it might seem to the older generation.

@Yumikoo Awesome! :D

Eh? I think I forgot I posted here...

Anyways - what you seem to be describing is a mix of craziness and cosplaying. Craziness is awesome, most of the time. If someone makes a crazy fashion statement, it's all good - I give 'em the thumbs up. Crazy cosplayers not wearing any underclothing in a revealing cosplay... that is crazy - in the bad way.

LOL, you sure did. :D

By underclothing, you mean undergarments? Sure, that's way crazy. I wasn't talking about scanty cosplays suited to gawking old men and depraved sluts, I was talking about a fantasy cosplay meant for visual recreation and marvel, and fulfilling an intrinsic sense of longing for a come-to-life character.

Kandierain15 10-09-2010 09:38 PM

Welp,
no one has posted on heree yet, sooo..

Yeshh I love cosplaying! ♥
but it's veryyyy expensive. D:
So me and my friends usually mix and fix normal clothes to make up our own versions.! =3

CoolNard 10-10-2010 06:55 AM

Hi misfitmosher, there's already a cosplay thread here, so I just merged the two. Thanks and keep up the posts!

I love cosplaying btw. :)

Saber 10-12-2010 12:46 AM

I cosplay, my favorite has been Saber from Fate/Stay Night. I make all my costumes.

BakaTensei 10-12-2010 12:53 AM

Only time I would really get the chance to cosplay would be halloween if that can even be considered cosplay

Dressed up as Ken from street fighter and strangly enough I nearly got into a fight on a street =D

This year I'm going to be Sora from kingdom hearts 2, heres hoping I can magic a keyblade into my hand and get to beat some baddys up

Dayanx 10-12-2010 04:22 AM

I've been told I look a bit like Mad Bull. As crappy as those OVAs are I kinda get a kick out of that.

I actually wasn't cosplaying. I was fresh from work :mtongue:

Here is from when I tried to pull off a random badguy from (take your pick which) Metal gear Solid:

Lol, I think that first one is awesome. xD You just gotta work on your moustache and sideburns a bit. Even if you were fresh from work, you got the look there. Don't mind what people say, I think you look great cosplaying :vsign:

Dayanx 10-15-2010 07:39 AM

Thanks, but Glocktalk and AR15.com already have Me immortalized in demotivationals as "SON OF MALL NINJA" lol

In retrospect, there's probably not many things funnier than a fat gunman lol

colovegirl 10-18-2010 08:17 AM

I will cosplay a gothic lolita in my elegant gothic lolita dress.

Rakutenka 10-21-2010 07:12 PM

Hey there!

I cosplay since 2006 <3
And I just love it!

I sew every costume myself...
What I like most about cosplaying?
  • the haircolors, the wigs<3
  • Styling, make-up...sewing <3
  • And acting<3

It just includes everything I need to be happy<3

For example: Me as Akaito from "Vocaloid" - Book fair 2009

with my personal soul-mate as Kaito!

greetz~
Raku,.
