forgotten anime movie from 1980s

I need your help.
I'm looking for the title of an animated japanese movie from the 1980s
The movie is from early to mid 1980s, and i forgot the title.

It is a movie that is about an old man who is talking about when he was young.
When he was young he betrayed his people/village and his people were killed, including the girl he loved.
I think there was also an big old tree in the movie....unfortuantly it is the only thing i remember.
