Blood+ and/or Blood: The Last Vampire

Do you have a preference, love 'em both, or never heard of it?

Samael 09-14-2007 04:27 AM

Movie was definatly superior. Show has decent art quality but a terrible plot, movie had beautiful art and no plot to speak of but way more badassery.

Unfortunaly I don't have the related "watched/expected/got" image.

Really? I am not that far into the show, but I think it has an awesome plot (at least so far...) I agree that the short movie is beautifully done, but leaves a LOT of the plot up to the viewer. At least the series fills on some of those holes.

Certainly the series isn't as badass style-wise as the movie, but I think it is superior (especially in the sound department) to a lot of anime series. The CG is pretty seamless and well mixed into the drawn stuff...(unless it is all CG, and I am an idiot).

youseikun 09-14-2007 08:01 AM

I've seen the show and I love it...though I missed a few episodes so now I'm lost and have no idea what's going on. >_<
That's the only thing that sucks about it.
It's one of those animes that if you don't watch it from beginning to end you have no idea what's going on.
But I do love it. ^__^
(funny thing is it's on TV right now X])

MMM 09-14-2007 08:27 AM

Yes...a lot happens in each episode, so missing one would be throw you off. I think the DVDs come out in January or February.

Sachiko 09-14-2007 10:20 AM

haha, i liked both!!!
^_^

MMM, your really getting into blood+ and Blood: the last vampire arent you? (I can tell by all the recent topics you have startted)

I loved them both.
Its been awhile since I saw the movie, but from what I can remember, it was an excelent movie, with a buetifull art style, and interesting stylization.

The sereise started out strong, got better and better, but eventualy just became too much of a strech. Im sorry to say, I dont think it was that good all the way through. Although, it does seem to be getting better.

SeeD 09-14-2007 09:35 PM

I also was trying to clear the poll area of that religious poll, and this was the first think to come to mind.

Thanks for that, I needed ammo. Craptastic I know, but sums up my sentiments well.

ivi0nk3y 09-15-2007 12:34 PM

I loved the movie. Bought that on VHS so long ago lol.

Oh sweet! So is that enough to make a living off of, or do you also do other things?

Oh, and what else have you worked on translating?

NYCFreed 09-16-2007 12:44 AM

i really enjoy blood+, episode 37 atm :D
some parts of the series bother me, as in some parts i feel like a character / characters are being pretty naive, but i guess its part of the plot at those parts T.T

That has been released is "The Great Adventures of the Dirty Pair" first novel. The second one isn't out yet. And a few websites and instruction manuals...

I can get by...

Ha ha! Yes, I watched the movie and am reading the novel that follows the movie now. I actually am not that far into the show, but at least what I have seen, I like a lot. When all this stuff comes out next year on DVD and in print form (manga and novels) I think it will probably get a lot of attention.

Yea, I think the manga will get a lot of attention when it comes out.

I think the show is already getting a lot of attention since its running on adultswim right after bleach. Also, the movie is really classic and has gained a lot of attention though the years.

Is the novel good? Im not sure if I should read it or not.

MMM 09-17-2007 03:09 AM

There is a novel that is set after the story in "Blood: The Last Vampire" called "Blood: The Last Vampire - Night of the Beasts". This is between the movie and the Blood+ series. It is very well written and is translated by one of the best fiction translators working today, Camellia Nieh, who also did Crimson Labyrinth (a very cool Survivor meets Battle Royale story) and Ode to Kirihito, one of the best manga I have ever read.

Is there more than one Blood novel? I saw one in the bookstore, but now Im not sure if we are thinking of the same one...Im pretty sure I remember seeing the author of the novel was Oshii Mamoru, which I thought was intersting, because I didnt know he could write novels.

SephirothVVC 04-06-2009 08:16 PM

i think the movie was under-rated on this poll. i really liked both but the movie was so impacting for only being about 30 minutes or so.... one of the best movies and show i have seen in my opinion^.^

How does "Blood: The Last Vampire - Night of Beasts" and the rest of the novels compare to the rest of the franchise?

Anyone know a cheap place to buy them all?

The Night of the Beasts is a stand-alone novel. The four Blood+ novels out now are novelization of the Blood+ anime series (the fourth one comes out in July), and then there are two prequel novels coming out:

Blood+: Adagio Volume 1 TPB :: Profile :: Dark Horse Comics

so the Blood+ ones are manga? and the prequels should be sorta like the movie?

There are Blood+ manga and Blood+ novelizations. The manga does not follow the anime very closely, and it is more bloody and mature. The novels follow the anime closely, but give more details and can explain things you can't explain in an anime.

The prequel novels for Blood+ have nothing to do with the movie.

Wow, finally some stuff about Blood+!! It's my favorite anime of all time, I've never had the chance to see the movie, or read the books though. But the anime series was amazing.

5/5 IMO

Macabre 04-06-2009 08:51 PM

i really liked blood+ although i never watched the movie i was told by a friend that its awesome

well i meant as in it would be similar to the movie because the movie had prequel like qualities...

so besides the manga adaption, there is really no more story?

Well, the movie didn't have Hagi and the Blood+ prequels are set a 100+ years earlier and in Russia. I have heard there is even some BL hints with Hagi and someone else.

The manga adaption is loosely based on the anime storyline.
