How Do you feel about AmericanManga?
 
Please tell me your thoughts on AmericanManga:

That is a beautiful book, and More and more Americans’ are creating very beautiful artworks. Drama con is about a girl named Chrissie who goes to an anime convention for the first time with her boyfriend and she goes threw alot! it's a really cute manga, and it's a shojo of course hense the name Drama con Hee hee ^w^

Well some are ^w^ It doesn't really bother me if its LEFT to RIGHT instead of Just Normal.
They just wanna keep the Tradional way, but also, Korea Manwah Does it there own way too. i see alot of manwah like, be american way. and then i see some japanese.

You should really read some, they are really nice ^w^

American-manga? All I can think of is Mega Tokyo, though thats more like a web-comic then a manga...However, it IS now being realeased in japan. It's funny, cute, and has a tiny, tiny bit of romance (as much as a web-comic possibly could). Go look for volume 1 :vsign:

I read manga because I like what's Japanese about it, such as their views on society, education, religion etc. and I think if an American has lived in Japan and wants to bring that into their work as a manga then great, but what's not great is just copying someone else.

Americans have great comic books and artists, I mean stuff like Batman and Sin City is popular, so you don't have to go the manga route just to sell. Just be original, express yourself through your work.

Thinking about it, what is Manga style?

I mean you have your stereotypical manga style with your big eyes, bad hair, schoolgirls and robots, but when you read manga such as that by Yoshihiro Tasumi ("Pushman and other stories", "Abandon the old in Tokyo"), there's actually no manga stereotypes in it at all.

There's another book called "Japan as viewed by 17 creators", and the French entries aren't very manga-like but then neither are the Japanese entries. So what makes some manga and not others?

That's not what there trying to do at all, Japanese Artwork is really nice, and those are called Comics, not AmericanManga o.o There not doing it for popularty there doing it because they like it.

well heres one thing it may be more original by japanese but i know a few who think it would be cool from here and some that i met in a city and they say it would show more of american things to them and make one based one japanese histrical figures as well from a different view

Nobody is saying what these American artists are doing, or what you are doing isn't good. It's great that people are being creative.

But let's say you draw in a 'Japanese' style, and a Japanese person draws in an 'American' style. People may say your stuff is better than the Japanese persons, it may even look more like Manga than the Japanese persons, it may be better in every single way, but it just isn't Manga. Why is that a problem?

Sorry but the style of Manga just isn't "American" to me. Manga has Japanese culture coupled with the Japanese point of view in its stories. Its like saying the Japanese version of the auto-mobile is a "Japanese Chrysler" not a "Honda".
As far as "American" Manga is concerned, I agree what MMM said.

I guess you may have misunderstood what I was saying, I wasn't saying all american artists were copying the Japanese, I was just saying that no matter what style you choose to draw in, you should draw to express what you want to say and be original. Many Manga artists copy other manga artists and aren't original either, I just don't like to read that sort of stuff. I'd like to read an American manga about what it's like to grow up in America rather than try to write about schools in Japan.

I'm not one to pick sides, generally, but MMM is right. You asked for opinions. Some will be for it, like me, and some will think it isn't so great. and don't feel ganged up on! It's just heated conversation is all :D

This is COMEDY.
And it will make you laugh.

It does has yaoi themes, but its not yaoi at all, there totally straight, thank you for keeping an open mind and checking this out ^w^ makes me really happy after all thats happened.

Its really "Yaoi House" but the boys didnt know that, i guess its sorta like "I now promonce you chuck and larry?." because there pretending to be gay so they can stay in the dorms because only gays are allowed and girls.

Is that manga in Newstype? Yeah it is...it's always on the last page. Sorry, I just joined in, but I couldn't help but get my senses perked with 'yaoi' going around. But that manga is barely yaoi at all. :(
