In norway it's "hei" or "hallo" as the most used ones. Also "morn/god morgen (good day)" and "god kveld (good evening)" as more formal ones.

I'm belgian and in my mother language ( the french ) I will say : SALUT ! BONJOUR ! COUCOU ! HEY !
|
Ah, greetings everyone!
Mhmm... I'm from Latvia and here we say 'Sveiki!' (Hello), 'Čau!' (Ciao - both hello & goodbye), 'Labrīt!'(Good morning), 'Labdien!' (good day/good afternoon), 'Labvakar!' (good evening), 'Ar labu nakti!' (good night - technically this isn't a greeting but who cares)... 'Atā' & 'Uz redzēšanos' (Goodbye) Alright, that's about it... |

(alright... that was pretty random, I'm aware of that.) |

I'm from Wales, and our native language is Welsh!
In Welsh, there isn't really a word for 'hello' We use: Bore da - Good Morning P'nawn da - Good Afternoon Noswaith da - Good Night And just as a little side-word, this is the longest word in the Welsh language, it's the name of a train station: Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch Look it up if you don't believe me. ;) |
I too am from America so it would be Hi, Hello and Hey (though Hey is informal and depends on the tone when spoken) and waving:ywave:
but that might be universal. Quote:
that's an interesting fact, thank you. I think the longest word in English (or American English anyway) i think is a medical term: Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis. (But it is sometimes debated) P.S I spelled that from memory.:D |
I'm from Sweden and the most common way to say hi would be "hej" (hey).
Then of course you have to more casual "tja" (sha) or "tjena" (shena, with the e pronounced as the e(a) in "ear"), and "hallå", which is used for answering the phone. Aaaaand then there's the more old fashioned greetings like Good day - God dag Good afternoon - God (efter)middag Good evening - God kväll Been lurking for some time now (mouahaha, I've got my eyes on you...), but I haven't really seen any other Swedes. Am I really the only (from now on) active Swede, or are they all just hiding? Or maybe they went into hibernation due to the bloody cold... :coldbear: |
