Best/Worst Non-Japanese Movies

Ok so whats your best or worst movie from around the world?
Surely this thread won't be moved to the "Japanese Movies" section :mtongue:

I personally have a lot of best movies. Stuff like Requiem for a Dream, Eternal Sunshine, Rocky, Terminator 2 etc.

My worst have got to be Zoolander (crappest comedy of all time) and almost any Bollywood movie lol.

ps. sorry for misspelling Japanese in the name of the thread -_-'

Suki 01-23-2008 03:38 PM

Best movie... I can't pick just one >.< But for me it'd probably be either Schindler's List or Great Expectations [<-- just because I loved the novel =P]

And the worst would have to be... Romeo + Juliet; yeah, it is the only time I have not liked a movie in which DiCaprio starred lol

koaku 01-23-2008 03:48 PM

Action movie: love the MI series and Terminator
Comedy: Stephen chow is my King i think he's better than Ben Stiller (I love him too----> Zoolander is incredible lol I dont how they call that in english but in french that the "Defi-défilé" with owen wilson lol"
Thriller: Usual Suspect, my best movie ever...
Horror: Im a big fan of horror movie and I'll say the Evil Dead series(I_II_III) lol

Titanic used to traumatized me(really dont like this movie) but i still like Romer+Juliet

Acidreptile 01-23-2008 03:52 PM

Iviok3y you are totally right.I also hate Zoolander it is probably the worst movie of all times. And the best movie of all times that is really impossible to choose.Sorry.:vsign:

NightChilde25 01-23-2008 04:57 PM

Oh I have TONS of movies to add to the best list. Legend, Labyrinth, The original Star Wars movies, The Lord of the Rings movies, The Return of the King animated movie, Interview with the Vampire, Romeo and Juliet, Terminator, the list goes on and on. I could be here all day.

The worst movies are Zoolander, Dumb and Dumber and it's sequel (which I refused to watch all of) Dumb and Dumberer, The Blair Witch Project, The Star Wars Prequels (all of them. I swear George Lucas was on muppet crack when he came up with them.), and Spaceballs.

Suki 01-23-2008 05:04 PM

What...?! You guys liked Romeo + Juliet? Oww please, it was trash in its purest form ¬¬' And Dumb and Dumber is a great movie with GREAT actors in it... :o Okay, it ain't a good movie but it wasn't supposed to be one, its whole purpose is to get you laughing.

koaku 01-23-2008 05:16 PM

yeaaahh forgot da one !!! Dumb&Dumber, Auto-Stop scene lol
Video Dumb & Dumber - Vo - Auto-Stop - Dumb_et_Dumber, Dumb_&_Dumber, Jim_Carrey, Jeff_Daniels, Culte - Dailymotion Share Your Videos

ivi0nk3y 01-23-2008 06:02 PM

I love Dumb & Dumber! Spaceballs is funny too! Dunno about Dumb & Dumberer tho.

Thunda 01-23-2008 06:03 PM

I have many favorites too but I have to point out the DUMBEST of all.
Like Stop Shop and Jay and Slient Bob. Also Borat and Ali-G. Those are funny yet they parodise those who laugh on it. I like them because of that.

I dislike those mid-movies (LOL) what were just done and they're pretty fictive, I mean they show rappers in it for example, and it's totally not like that in real life.
Best is what everyone knows is Walker the Texas Ranger yet it's not a Movie LOL-

Walker, Texas Ranger was a tv movie too I think.

NightChilde25 01-23-2008 06:09 PM

Ok, I'll admit the auto-stop scene in Dumb and Dumber was funny but that was the only scene that I could stand in the entire movie. The actors had nothing to do with my dislike of it. The movie was just too stupid. I just hated it. As for Romeo + Juliet, I was actually talking about the old Romeo and Juliet, not the one with Leonardo Dicaprio. (The one I'm talking about is in Black and White. For the life of me, I can't remember who played it it.) However I did like that one. It's not one of my all time favorites or anything, though. I'll admit that one was...different but I'd hardly call it trash. After all it was written by Shakespear even if it had a modern twist on it. Now I do agree with you on Great Expectations, Suki. It was great. I don't know how I forgot about that one.

LiaEsNyappy 01-23-2008 06:14 PM

Best movie...id have to say LOTR, sorry im a Tolkien fan. Mirrormask was pretty awesome too though.
Worst movie...um that new Dragon Wars crap. I turned that off like 10min in it was so bad.

koaku 01-23-2008 06:37 PM

yeah i saw that movie and dragon wars is the worst "asian"movie ever...

NightChilde25 I will find other scene of the movie (D&D) i swear you will love it!lol

Rogozhin 01-24-2008 11:58 PM

Best : Sin City

Worst : The Covenant

kuronekoaus 01-25-2008 04:01 AM

What are you people talking about? Zoolander was hilarious! Taking the piss out of vanity and celebrities...

Best movie: I think Garden State. I watched it recently and it was something that I'd never felt from a movie before.
Worst: Anything targeted at anyone younger than 15.

Shiningmonkey 01-26-2008 01:58 AM

Any Leslie Neilson movie (the Airplane movies, spy hard, the naked gun movies, and, my fav, Wrongfully accused). He's hilarious AND old. How much better does it get?

clairebear 01-26-2008 02:01 AM

Dumb and Dumber is one of my favourite movies o_o!

I'm not sure about worst movies though..hmm..hey, I know one. Crossroads, which starred the most talented actress, Britney Spears!

koaku 01-26-2008 02:55 AM

Yep dumb&dumber is awsome! i'll add Street Fighter The movie with JCVD lol and Dunjons&Dragons in the worst

ivi0nk3y 01-26-2008 05:00 AM

I wanna add Devil's Rejects as one of the dumbest, pointless movies of all time. (including the movie before it, since this was meant to be some sortof sequel.)

Suki 01-26-2008 12:08 PM

D.O.A! Omg, it sucked to the core... I can't believe that somebody actually paid for its production -.-'

I would have paid for its production... It's all about money. DOA, is famous, it has sexy women and action. Thats a perfect combination for A LOT of people (mainly men)... That film made money.

The girls were damn hot, but what about talented acting skills? :P

Noodle, I know, but it didn't make as much money as they had expected. I only watched it cause Steve Howey was in it.

It still made enough not to be a total FLOP... And yeah, i only watched it for the women!

ivi0nk3y 01-26-2008 12:59 PM

I gotta agree with Suki for once. The movie as opposed to the game was a total crock of sh*t. So much was taken out. The usual complaints about making movies from good selling titles of other media.

Who disagreed with suki about that? lol
I agree, the film was total S... But the point is, i would still have paid for its production if i was a businessman!

I didnt say you disagreed with her, I just said I agreed.

Come to think of it, the best conversion from Book to Cinema has to be the Lord of The Rings trilogy.

O.O Have you read the books? So many important characters were cut out of the film; where was Glorfindel? How could they forget about him?

The best based-on-book movie (in my opinion) is Fight Club and Dead Poets Society.

Whats 88 minutes o.O The rest of those choices seem sound to me :D

There is always going to be something cut out or whatnot. Even so, I think the Lotr trilogy was done very well. A lot of time and effort was spent on it and it was very good to watch. You can't deny that.

I'm just dreading the conversion of my favourite Sword Of Truth series of books into a tv series -_-'

It's one of the more recent films staring Al Pacino! It's rather good!

koaku 01-26-2008 02:25 PM

In conversion from book to cinema there are some Stephen King movie...
like Shinning (Jack N.) ,The Stand( when i was kid this movie traumatized me lol) one of my favorite : Misery lol nothing to say...,Hummm also The Shawshank Redemption, a good one with Morgan Freeman,The Green Mile with Tom Hawks,Dreamcatcher with Freeman again and 1408 but i didnt saw this movie yet lol

Suki 01-26-2008 02:52 PM

The Green Mile! That's such a good movie! I love the part when Mr. Jingles gets resurrected <3 Tom Hanks just surpasses expectations as usual.

I know, you can't fit a 1000-paged novel into a movie without shortening the original plot. But Arwen was just as relevant to the story as Glorfindel, and she completely took over his part! Legolas stole his appearence and Arwen was put in his part and given so much credit... *disappointed and mad*

The trilogy is entertaining though but there're some major mistakes... most of them are unnoticable unless you watch it in slow-mo, but they're there, like the red car in the scene where Frodo is about to leave the Shire and he and Sam are eating apples or something. Btw, did anyone notice Frodo's nails? o.Ô

lol I love all those movies, cept The Stand cos I haven't even heard of that.
The Shining especially because No. Johnny 5 in Short Circuit 1 & 2 uses "Here's Johnny" for himself a lot :D (which also happen to be two films I love.)
I also agree that The Green Mile is an awesome movie :D Tom Hanks doesn't always do good roles though. I was pretty disappointed with The Lady Killers, even though his character wasn't that bad and I preferred Marlon Wayans to everyone else in that movie.
Of course Forrest Gump is a classic.

ps. The Last Samurai was alright in my opinion. Nothing amazing and nothing too crappy.

Sundae16 01-26-2008 03:53 PM

I like The Butterfly Effect alot. Just amazing ^.^
Requiem for a Dream's good too. Jared Leto's my favourite actor after all, lol.

I like horror movies (not sadistic ones). Specially Japanese, but it has to be non-Japanese right?:P

I don't know about the worst one...there's just too many of them xD

Any movie you love or hate lol
Requiem for a Dream was simply.. disturbing. Awesome movie but I was just really disturbed when I first finished watching it. Sarah Connelly very much reminded me of someone I loved to death, so the conclusion of that movie really really shocked me.
Which reminds me, Blood Diamond was also awesome! I used to hate Di Caprio but he totally made that movie excellent.
