Abortion in Japan?

I recently heard from my older sister that (in Japan) if you have a daughter that has a child, then if your second daughter got pregnant, she would have to have an abortion, Because "there are too many girls in Japan", or something like that.

Is this true?

absolute load of rubbish. Japanese government is currently trying to encourage people to go forth and multiply for they, like many other developed countries, have an ageing population.

your older sister is very very wrong. she might be confusing Japan with China but even in China there is no such rule.

currently in China there are a few policies.
1 child rule, which allows parents to have just one child, in more rural areas there is the 1.5 child rule where if your first child is a girl you are allowed to try again to get a male so as to help on the farm etc.
there there is the 2 child rule (i believe it is 2) where adults who have no siblings because they were part of the 1 child policy generation are allowed to have 2 children.

Forced abortion in a first-world country? Does that REALLY sound possible?

Don't have a clue, but that would be unfair. :P

This is not at all in any way true.

The government PAYS you more and more money each month the more children you have. 5000/month for one, 10,000/month for two, 20,000/three, etc. They WANT you to have more children.
