Petition: JapanForum ShoutBox

Hello all, I have been a member for this site quiet some time and I have always wanted to see a little more interactivity from this site (⌒▽⌒)ノ_彡☆バンバン!

If at all possible with some consideration can we please include a mini chat box for the site? I believe it will help connect us more as a site. Sometimes, people just want to shoot their ideas with other members and a small shout box seems that it would do its justice. ヽ(゚ー゚*ヽ)ヽ(*゚ー゚*)ノ(ノ*゚ー゚)ノ ワーイワー ワーイ♪

It can be located on the front of the page or where ever the desired location, but I truly believe a small chat box would be a great addition to an even greater site ^_^

If not, Let all hell break loose!

ヘ( ・_・)ノ−−===*~●☆●~*===−−ヾ(・_・ )o 爆弾返し!!

Maybe if you could visit a site like ShoutMix - Free shoutbox/tagboard chat widget! that would be helpful

XjapanFOREVER 11-17-2008 03:33 AM

I second the motion!

ThirdSight 11-17-2008 03:37 AM

Third...ded.

I think it's be a cool idea, maybe get some of the more random posts out of the way.

Plus it'd give DMX a space to post without spamming the message boards themselves.

Yuna7780 11-17-2008 03:39 AM

I love shout boxes! I think it'd be a fun idea to make for JF. I just love making the random quick topics; and it's a good way to create a tiny topic to ask simple questions without making a thread.

kenmei 11-17-2008 03:41 AM

good idea, that or a simple chat room thing for online users would be cool

NightMikado 11-17-2008 04:08 AM

i fourth the motion lol

Correct me if im wrong but is this a vBulletin setup?? Just wondering in the case of setting up the chat.

BakaCrisis 11-17-2008 04:18 AM

Yea, I was wondering if this was a vBulletin as well. Oh well. I just know that a quick chat box can be proven useful for when we are too busy/tired to click "New topic" - "Reply" - "Post Quick Reply" Every single post, sometimes having rapid conversations helps.

I get nervous when I hear about "random quick topics". If you are too busy or too tired to do something, why are you on Japan Forum? Finish your work or go to bed.

Its not as if those "Quick topics" aren't important, it just belongs in a more appropriate place. As long as it is Japanese related it belongs in JAPAN Forum, Am I right?

I would LOVE for there to be more Japan-related topics. Part of the problem I see now days is 80% of the people post in General Discussion on non-Japan related stuff. I wonder why that is.

LightningSaix73 11-17-2008 04:36 AM

I like this idea i think that's fifth the motion

̄\(−_−)/ ̄オテアゲッ I wish I could have an answer for that.

I guess I can put it this way, Sometimes you have IM chats that last minuets to hours, and you can easily scroll up to see hundreds of IM's sent, could you possible imagine how long it would take to send each response back and forth on a regular forum topic?

(; ̄ェ ̄)_|[PC]| 検索中・・・

I just honestly don't see why there should be an argument for the Shout Box to be added, we can entergrate the log in process by logging in as our forum user name to grant access and diminish spam.

MMM did you not post in the "Some interesting things about Japan" topic yesterday? and is it not true that in your first post in the topic you state at the end (After giving great details about japanese sterotypes) :AND I QUOTE:

15. In the Japanese language, it is considered rude to say the word "no" directly.

This CAN be true, but it depends on the situation. People say "no" all the time.

I don't have the energy to keep going...
=======================================

You sure would have the energy if there was a Chat Box up to quickly get your idea across :mtongue:

I am not arguing against the Shout Box, just against a couple of the reasons people posted.

It was a 50 point post and I didn't feel like addressing every point. I am not sure how a shout box would have invigorated me.

BakaCrisis 11-17-2008 04:57 AM

With much consideration, your right. Well, MMM you might know the proper procedures on how to successfully get word spread about this "Petition" . Seems like a neat idea the forum could at least test out.

The mods have no control over something like this. It would have to be decided and put into place by the admins.

kenmei 11-17-2008 06:59 AM

I think only Shinjuku Eki could do this and he would have to know how to add the proper code/whatever to create something like this...

emiluvsjmusic 11-17-2008 09:26 AM

This is an awesome idea!! I hope it goes through :)

Yeah I only have to look at your threads for proof :mtongue:

Well, asking questions about Japan can get a bit tiresome after a while, since a good majority of the people here are interested in Japan in some way shape and form, but have never been and/or know nothing about the culture.

I got tons of questions too, but I also got time.

I was thinking shoutbox more to prevent thread derailment, more than to take the place of quick-random-topic-how-do-i-scrub-my-shower-drain kind of posts.

MissMisa 11-17-2008 04:27 PM

Well I'd approve it, but unfortunately us mods can't do anything like that as I'm sure your away. We'll have to pm Shinjuku if we want anything like that.

animelover32 11-17-2008 09:46 PM

I have to say no to a Shout Box. Another forum I spend most of my internet time at has one; it gets spammed to the 100th degree by people who arn't members and the members who try and control it get pushed aside. This forum gets spammed enough, we don't need anything else that will add to it.

AkatsukiMemberR 11-17-2008 09:57 PM

Sounds interesting... I'm in.

On another forum I'm on, the shoutbox is members only. It is possible to make it so that only members can use it, and it isn't visible to non-members.

exactly, and any abuse would be treated just like abuse in the forum, with warnings/bannings/ect.

I was wondering if that would be a possibility. Good to know that it is, cause I kinda like this idea.

Slykaz1 11-17-2008 10:10 PM

I say "no" Please don't.

As I read somewhere on here.....This is not a "chat" forum it is a place where you can learn from others as well as teach others.

So I say "no", firmly.

honestly almost all of this forum has became a chat with the majority of posts in the general discussion area with very stimulating things such as "ruin the wish of the poster before you" and "would you rather be a vampire or a blahblahblah" or anything created by TheAlphaDuck. I have to agree with MMM on this aspect of the lack of Japan related postings.

Uriko 11-18-2008 01:37 AM

i like the idea.

they had it on another forum i used to go on & it helped keep the spammers busy while the rest can discuss away without interruption. ^_^;

xYinniex 11-18-2008 02:09 AM

yes, its a good idea, but i don't want it to be filled with chat about the twilight hype.

joeyj 11-18-2008 02:20 AM

I don't see why a shoutbox shouldn't be implemented, especially if it has spam protection

Says the one who started a Book Critique thread with said novel.

I see what you did there.

orewasenshi 11-23-2008 09:54 PM

It's a good idea, but every idea has flaws.

I would have to say it would be a good idea to get rid of spam, unrelated threads to Japan, and it would be convenient to just have a chat box right there instead of going from thread to thread and posting.

But the problem with this is that then there would be more work to do for the moderators on this site. They would have to make sure that people are behaving themselves and what not.

So even though it is a good idea, I'm saying no to this because it would just cause more problems to deal with for the moderators.

Acidreptile 11-23-2008 09:58 PM

I would not mind having a shoutbox. That way people that are bored can spam.

YukisUke 11-27-2008 03:31 AM

I think it would be really great to have a shoutbox. That way, people on the site can chat with each other when they don't want to be bothered.

I am always surprised when people here "don't want to be bothered" to do something. JF is a place to talk about things in your freetime. The last thing we need is more lazy people. I'd rather have people that are prepared to be bothered to do what it takes to be a positive member.

I am not trying to pick on you, YukisUke. i just see that sort of statement often here. "I am too lazy to use good grammar or spelling". Well if you are so lazy, don't post. Go to bed. No one wants to read the posts of a lazy person.
