Haha I know.
If it sounds good, what's the point of labeling it with a genre?
Genre's only make people dislike music, even if they deep down
really do like it, but just don't want someone to know they
are listening to that genre or so.

I do like a few of their songs ^___^

Youtubers = Annoying

Who hasn't?! They're everywhere...
I think they start fights on purpose.

Eh, rap's not really my flavor.
I'm meaning more on Sub-genres.
Like in METAL there is :
  • Black Metal,
  • Death Metal,
  • Doom Metal,
  • Drone Metal,
  • Folk Metal,
  • Glam Metal,
  • Gothic Metal,
  • Groove Metal,
  • Industrial Metal,
  • Metalcore,
  • Neo-classical Metal,
  • Nu-metal,
  • Post-Metal,
  • Power Metal,
  • Progressive Metal,
  • Sludge Metal,
  • Speed Metal,
  • Stoner Metal,
  • Thrash Metal,
  • Alternative Metal,
  • Avant-Garde Metal,
  • Christian Metal,
  • Extreme Metal,
  • Rap Metal,
  • Symphonic Metal,
  • Viking Metal,
  • Australian War Metal,
  • Baroque Metal,
  • Blues Rock,
  • Circus Metal,
  • Comedy Metal,
  • Epic Metal,
  • Gore Metal,
  • Grindcore,
  • Ice Metal,
  • Math Metal,
  • Melodic Death Metal,
  • New Wave Metal,
  • Opera Metal,
  • Oriental Metal,
  • Party Metal,
  • Synth Metal,
  • True Metal,
  • SID Metal,
  • Vedic Metal,
And etc.....

Did I miss any? Goodness.

+That was from Wikipedia...and Subgenres Of Metal | Guitar Columns @ Ultimate-Guitar.Com

Well, you could go insane and try to classify
every Metal band you know into these sub-genre's
and dump the bands that don't fit into your little
club because it's not "real metal" . . . . . . . .

Or you could be an open-minded Metalhead,
and disregard all these useless little sub-genres,
and listen to what you like...

Crani 12-29-2008 01:12 AM

This is just... Awesome...

Isn't it Stoner rock, Christian rock and Grunge rock?
And Viking Metal, Pirate Metal, etc... Are basically Folk Metal with a Viking or Pirate theme, so I don't know if they actually count as sub genres

TheCrimson 12-29-2008 01:13 AM

yep. i'm mostly an open minded metal head... but i cant stand too much death/black/viking metal.

too much of it make my brain hurt O_o

awesome Japanese industrial band.

REAL industrial. not that shitty EBM junk people claim to be industrial. this is real industrial with real guitar =D

Ha well I did put an ETC
So those could very well count . . .

But seriously... Pirate and Circus Metal??
Really, I hadn't even heard of half of those.

How can it be worse then Power Metal or Thrash Metal?

Pirate Metal isn't a very popular genre because there aren't many bands who play it.

As for Circus metal, I never heard of it, but I have to check it out.

speaking of pirates.

anyone heard of the sub genre steampunk?

most of them do industrial.

Are you bashing power metal? What's wrong with power metal, seriously? Viking metal is cool too, and so is some death metal.

Mr. Sandman by Blind Guardian. So amazing. The video is great too.

I'm not bashing Power Metal, I'm just saying that Viking isn't stronger or noisier then Power Metal, not saying that it is bad.

Blind Guardian are metal! Hansi Kürsch has a great voice:

CarleyGee 12-29-2008 08:03 PM

Really, whatever's loud and fast is what I will like.
But I'm a little picky with whoever does vocals...
Actually, I'm going to try and stop that.

I guess I misinterpreted your words. You said "How can viking metal be as bad as power metal." You mean, as badass? Hahahaha.

Hansi Kürsch is a really great singer. His voice is awesome and unique, you'll never hear anything like his ever.

Apology accepted, now to celebrate let's go drink on Nancy's tavern and talk like a pirate:

CarleyGee 12-30-2008 01:19 AM

Animal Farm - Clutch

By far, one of the best songs.
That album was definitely their best.

And When Maynard flipped a fan, and
sat on him for 9+ minutes, continuing
to sing awesome. No one can do it
like Tool.

This is the actual part of him flipping him.

minimin 12-30-2008 01:24 AM

I like Clutch I played a song for one of my friends by the name "10001110101" and he thought i was insane. >.> he's an Idiot though.

CarleyGee 12-30-2008 01:29 AM

I've only listened to two of their albums.
And I only liked one and half hahaha.

I mainly like "Animal Farm" because it's
very political, and I'm known for speaking
out against the government in any way
possible.
Like when the teachers bitch at me for
not saying the Pledge of Allegience...
Well Oh well. : D

!

If anyone has any good political-metal
bands on their playlists, do post here!

Though I get the feeling, there aren't
many bands like that . . . that's more
punk I would guess.

minimin 12-30-2008 01:33 AM

Well I like SOAD there quite political, well I wouldnt say alot of my music is Political but Iam very. When I was in H.S. we didnt have to say Pledge of Allegiance. It would've annoyed me too and I probably wouldnt have stood up either tho.

SOAD are pretty good. I've liked quite a few of their songs.
I accidently put like 100 of their's on my Zune by accident.
and I never got around to listening to them , so I just took
them off :/

Well we don't have to, though it is frowned upon if you don't.
People who don't are usually stared at in funny ways..

and Im probably not metal enough for most metalheads I do like some tho, What is your interpretation of a metal band, I hate when others who dont listen to a genre try to explain but since you listen more which are the best Metal bands?

Crani 12-30-2008 01:48 AM

They're not exactly metal, but close to it, Rage against the Machine are a very political band:

Since I'm not a good source, I'll got urban dictionary for help...

Too make it easier to read, I'll bold any band that is mentioned.

1. Metal
A type of music characterized by it's cacophonous wall of sound and accelerated tempo which is achieved through distorted electric guitars playing fast-paced riffs, with the driving drumbeat often utilizing hypersonic double bass rhythms and emphasizing the continuous pumping action, the bass guitar is often playing similar to the guitar, but more with the drums, so as to add to the overall heavyness and depth. It can manifest in many different forms and the spectrum of intensity is usually quite varied. From slow and heavy melodic grooves, to complex and precise blinding rhythms, odd time changes, and sheer brutality.. metal comes in many shapes and sizes. One common trait of metal is to have vocals dealing with dark subject matter, often sung with anger, aggression, and conviction in the form of screaming. Melodic smooth vocals are also accepted. Solos are an integral part of metal music, as the icing on the cake to complement the heavy intensity of the songs and add more depth and individuality. Real metal has a solo in every song, usually scales and arpeggios played with some changes often in 8th, 16th, or 32nd notes..if only a few quick licks. Metal is progressive and dynamic, and usually provokes feelings that are therapeutic to the listener. Metal is rock music that has evolved.

Opeth, Death, Slayer, Pantera, Iced Earth, In Flames, Testament

The best kind of music the world has to offer. Metallica, Slayer, Pantera.... need I say more?

Movement of music that started essentially with the heavy rock movements of such bands as but not limited to: The Cream, The Spiders, Iron Butterfly, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Led Zepplin, and Kiss. The sound took a larger heavier sound with bands like Aerosmith, Black Sabbath, Pentagram, AC/DC and such bands. But Black Sabbath was the most respected and possibly the darkest of the lot. This is considered the Classical Metal era between the mid sixties to the late seventies. From there on out, when the eighties rolled around, Speed metal became popular with the NWOBHM movement, and thrash metal evolved with such bands as Metallica, Exodus, Primus, Trauma, Megadeth, Testament et cetera. During the 80s a more underground movement of slow metal began to evolve called Doom Metal by such bands as Candlemass, Pentagram and the like. Also in the mid 80s a new form of metal evolved from thrash called Death Metal, and used screams, and heavy notes, and shortly after a new style formed yet again from death metal called grind metal or grindcore. The 90's rolled around, and Groove Metal began evolving with such bands as Pantera, and even Ozzy with his new guitarist took upon himself a slower style more groove/doom based rather than thrash. Then around the late 90s the groove and doom metal scene flourished and produced such bands as crowbar, down, and black label society. Also around the 90s a new form of Metal formed, New Metal. It comprised of such bands as Korn, Slipknot, System of a Down, Tool, Nine Inch Nails, Manson, Sevendust, and Godsmack. This style focuses on dissonance for heaviness and loud vocals, probably inspired by the death/noisecore of the late 80's movement.
Metal Rules!

Metalcore includes bands like Killswitch engage, Trivium, Caliban & Shadows fall

For More information :
Urban Dictionary: metal

Also, urban dictionary usually has definitions for bands as well..
Such as....

Lamb of God!

Lamb Of God
One of the best metal bands to come around in years. Their music is brutal and devastating and rocks.

minimin 12-30-2008 02:00 AM

Wow awesome definition ^_^ I like some of those bands but lost alot of them cuz my sister broke our other computer-slaps- I hate that I lost all my music, some cds that are lost are gone. damn, but I shall get them again.

Yeah they seems to be the classic metal in my own view.
Those are always the bands mentioned.

Yeah, and I notice people hate on Newer Metal, they barely get Nominated to win anything and I say if you actually listen they write some of the best music, sad aint it. -shakes head-

Arikado 12-30-2008 02:05 AM

I was crazy about Metallica for a while. I used to love playing all of their songs on my guitar, hahaha. Besides ones like Battery, I find a lot of their songs too slow now.

There are two types of metalheads.
The open-minded ones, and the closed-minded ones.

Newer metal is never really accepted except on
rare occasions that they appeal to most everyone.

Shame..

Yeah, it really is...I wish everyone can see the art in all music...well most. Now, I listen to anything once. and theres lots of music that appeals to me, namely Hard rock, Industrial(well not all bands like NIN), and Metal. Some are scared by my open minded musicness haha. The only music i wont touch or even steal of the net is new Rap, ugh. I can talk about how much I hate that stuff...But this isnt the right place haha

I think I can only withstand one band and thats Gym Class Heroes, I can actually say I like them. but If i have to hear that superman song I think my ears will bleed. Other than that Todays RAP IS CRAP seriously

Crani 12-30-2008 02:22 AM

The pre-commercial Metallica were awesome, but once they went commercial they started sounding average. I guess Metal is one of the few genre that survived time, unlike rock, new metal bands are actually good, some better then does that came before them.

That's what usually happens.
Bands are almost always better before they get signed and such.
