Industrial/Metal/Alternative [music]

hmmm. just thought maybe we needed a place where we could share our tastes in heavy music? maybe share some bands, videos, etc?

i guess tell us what you're into and why.

any kind of heavy music =)

I'm whoring a melodic industrial metal band at the moment,

check em out =)

I'm lapping up a lot of Apocalyptica at the moment, the cello just adds eerieness, and I'm lovin Hanzel und Gretyl and Rammstein <33
the German language is just scary! =D

so, what's everyone here into?

Arikado 12-09-2008 03:32 AM

My brother recently introduced me to this American metal band called Arsis. Simply put, it rocks my socks. The best album is We Are the Nightmare, and the riffs are completely badass and that's an understatement. I was surprised to hear that they originated in the U.S., being as most American metal/death metal bands are notoriously awful in my opinion.
I'd recommend Arsis to someone who didn't like metal just to see if it would change their mind, hahaha.

Oh, if any of you like Finnish metal, try Ensiferum. It looks like you like Amon Amarth, joey, so Ensiferum should be right down your alley. Maybe try Turisas too.

:D Great thread Crimson.

Let's not forget our Brazilian boys, Sepultura ^-^ I really dig heavy sh*t that dabbles with indigenous sounds and ideas.

Since this is Heavy Metal domain now, here's a band that's worth looking up. Saw them on VBS a couple weeks ago...

Acrassicauda

These guys need to make it to the states to tour. :p or at least out of harm's way :vsign:

Sepultura is dead, but since you like them, you should give a chance to the new Max and Igor Cavalera band,"The Cavalera Conspiracy".

Sepultura's not dead. they just have a sh*t singer now xD

I say they are dead because there is only 1 member remaining from the original line-up.

And before I forget, the other Max Cavalera project,"Soulfly",is also excellent.

On the metal flaming note, I hate it when people just say, "AH its just a bunch of noise." I think that metal(the stuff that is well put together and not just trying to rip the strings off) takes a lot of talent if not more than what is "main stream".

Note: I am talking strictly instruments, not singing.

and dont forget, a lot of real metal uses aspects of classical music =)

and do you know how freaking hard it is to do triplet picking? =P heck, its hard to pick real fast.

and metal definitely have more personality than most of the sh*t on the radio these days. more depth.

Lol. totally =)

joeyj 12-11-2008 04:35 AM

LoL the winnie the pooh video was great

Acidreptile 12-11-2008 04:35 AM

Yes TheCrimson and many Death Metal bands also have jazz elements, like Atheist for example, not?

cridgit001 12-11-2008 04:37 AM

I'm just going to list what I have so some of them will be repeats from before

All that Remains
As I Lay Dying
Atreyu
August Burns Red
Ensiferum
Evergreen Terrace
In Flames
Kamelot
Nightwish
Opeth
Scar Symmetry
Sinai Beach
Soil Work
Static-x
Still Remains
With Blood Comes Cleansing

I know its not very many but it's the metal/rock that I have. I'm a moody listener so I have all sorts.

LOL isnt it? =P i love it.

love Rammstein <3

they're simple, but they get their point across xD and Till is one dedicated man =D

and i wanna make a poinr on how awesome Bjork is... one of the most awesome alternative =D

Arikado 12-11-2008 04:39 AM

Metal is the most fun to play on the guitar because it's just so f**king fast sometimes! If you have a nice beefy amp with good base, rhythmic palm-muted strumming sounds so amazing. God, I need to get a new amp SO bad. I have this like 10 year old piece of sh*t practice amp with nothing going for it besides decent gain. That's going on my Christmas list.

Arsis! (I don't know how to embed, I fail ;[ )

YouTube - ARSIS - We Are The Nightmare (Version One)
YouTube - Arsis - Overthrown
YouTube - Arsis - My Oath to Madness
YouTube - Arsis- Servants To The Night

Those are just a few, but the entire album We Are the Nightmare wins.

Wintersun: Listen to the solo at 3:05, it's great. This guy knows his scales ;]

Edit: Just figured it out haha

I never paid much attention to the Korn guitars, since the bass is excellent so I always focused more on the bass. But the latest Korn album is quite weak, maybe that is because of Head's absence?

lol. Head actually uses bass strings on his guitar. hence his stuff's real heavy.
and i think he was a major contributor in Korn's music, that's probably why they're a bit weak now. hell, now they sound like a different band, it seems like Head took Korn's music away with him when he left the band, now the band only has the name, that's the only thing keeping them alive i think.

Bass strings on a guitar? o_o That's original...
