Korean movies

There's a bunch of threads for Japanese movies, so I figured I'd make one for Korean movies. I'm a big fan of Korean movies and I want to know who else likes them. I still have a lot to see, but here is a list of the ones I've seen. I want to know other people's opinions on these movies. Most of them are horror but some of them aren't. Opinions! These are the ones I've seen:

100 Days With Mr. Arrogant (Drama)

200 Pounds Beauty (Drama)

2009: Lost Memories (Drama)

3-Iron (Drama)

A Millionaire's First Love (Drama)

APT (Horror)

Arang (Horror)

A Tale of Two Sisters (Horror)

Bunshinsaba (Horror)

Cello (Horror)

Cinderella (Horror)

Dead Friend a.k.a The Ghost (Horror)

Doll Master (Horror)

Lady Vengeance (Horror)

Phone (Horror)

The Wig (Horror)

Whispering Corridors 2: Memento Mori (Horror)

Whispering Corridors 3: Wishing Stairs (Horror)

Whispering Corridors 4: Voice (Horror)

Miyavifan 12-15-2008 04:14 AM

How could I have forgotten about 3 Iron?

It's a great movie.... (I had to get it into a videotape)

(I like the actor who plays the lead male character)

superheel 12-15-2008 04:25 AM

the only Korean movie i watched is Le Grand chef. And it's a really nice movie.

jdragon 12-15-2008 04:35 AM

I finally watched The King & The Clown,
with Junki<3
& it was...sad. of course. it seems like all Korean movies
end up with someone dying. But also funny.
Junki makes the most gorgeous girl...I love him~
he's a great actor!^^

RoninDistance 12-15-2008 06:50 AM

Some of my favorites are Shiri (awesome!), Volcano High (kendo girl :rheart:), and Nowhere to Hide (rather weird, but cool). Really want to see 2009: Lost Memories, The Host, and 3-Iron.

xYinniex 12-15-2008 11:43 AM

OLD BOY PEOPLE. OLD BOY.
How could you forget!

Lady Vengeance

O.O 200 POUNDS OF BEAUTY? oh man, I tried to get through that, I just couldn't do it, too predictable and i just had to skip most of it. >.>

I LOVED seducing mr perfect.

I've heard a lot about Old Boy, but I haven't gotten around to seeing it yet.

2009: Lost Memories was an amazing movie! It was sad, but still really, really good. I recommend it.

Aota 12-15-2008 11:06 PM

I'm a Cyborg, But That's Okay is a Korean movie, right? With Rain?

The Red Shoe, I'm sure was a Korean horror.

But I could've sworn! that Volcano High was Japanese, not Korean.

Ningyou 12-16-2008 05:32 AM

The Red Shoes was a Korean horror film, but I didn't like it at all (that's why I didn't mention it). I thought it was completely ridiculous, but that's only my personal opinion.

And Volcano High was Korean but it was a lot like the Japanese Tenjo Tenge (or so says Wikipedia) so that might be what you're thinking about.

Aota 12-16-2008 11:51 PM

Haha. Red Shoe was funny, personally. Especially when the mother beat up the daughter for the shoes. >.>

Maybe... But I thought that the actors and actresses were Japanese. I never really got a good look at them; too busy laughing my ass off at the English dub cast. It was played on America's MTV movie night, and Lil Jon, and a bunch of other rappers were the voices. xD

iPanda 12-16-2008 11:55 PM

I saw the wig. I didn't really understand the ending, but it was definitely a creepy movie.

And I know its not a movie, but in Asian studies, My class watched Winter Sonata, which i really liked.

The only ones I can seem to think of are Godzilla and King Kong... but I am sure neither are in Korea? (I can't recall where they are set in)

Ah, that old drama, with Bae Yong Joon. [he's creepy]
Every korean Ahjumma loves that drama.

LOL~are you calling 'iPanda' an ahjumma?

---
I recently watched Nightmare...& it wasn't that scary.
It was kinda predictable & boring.
I watched part of My Sassy Girl & I thought it was funny...
but I haven't really felt the need to watch the rest of it.
I watched Virgin Snow & I liked it. Junki never fails me!^^

xYinniex 01-08-2009 02:07 PM

I didn;t call her an ahjumma, but are you one?

he's a good actor but creepy nonetheless.

koaku 01-08-2009 05:39 PM

So do an awful lot of young fan girls. Its not my favorite, but Bae Yong Jun is far from creepy. He's a very adept businessman along with his acting career.

MARS is a reallly good k-drama, especially if you like bikes.

Sephael 01-08-2009 11:22 PM

Funny how noone mentioned "A Man Who Was Superman" / "Superman ieotdeon sanai"

It's really good, as long as you don't expect a comedy

they're taiwanese
Though i'm not sure about MARS,
I've only seen the taiwanese ver. and read the manga.

the korean version of hanadan, is currently airing
The female protagonist is by by the cutest out if the three versions.

Tordek42 01-09-2009 03:54 AM

The only Korean film i've seen is "Windstruck" by Kwak Jae-yong. One of the best films I've ever seen (tbh I first watched because an X-Japan song appears a few times...), if i have to be truthful I found myself really emotional at the end

Ningyou 01-09-2009 04:32 AM

If any of you like Korean comedy/drama than you need to watch Baby and Me. I laughed my ass off throughout that entire movie.

IIRC right windstruck is a sequel(or is it prequel) to my sassy girl

They're linked, but not directly. They have the same director and lead actress, and at the end the lead actor of sassy girl makes an appearance.

Still need to watch it...

LinnyLo 01-09-2009 08:27 PM

I love 100 Days of Mr. Arrogant! So cute ^^. And I'm a Cyborg but That's Okay is cute too. What's that one movie called with Yoon Eun Hae... I can't really think of it right now. Legend of the Seven Cutter I think? I love Yoon Eun Hae... Coffee Prince is an unbeatable Korean drama. Gong Yoo is just so beautiful! I also love Lee Jun Ki! Virgin Snow, The King and the Clown, and Fly Daddy Fly are all good. I absolutely love him in My Girl (once again, a drama... sorry).

Ningyou 01-09-2009 11:15 PM

Coffee Prince was amazing! I'm glad someone brought that up! That's one of the cutest dramas ever. I was talking about movies though, not shows :P

LainIwakura 01-10-2009 02:14 PM

Koma isn't horrible. It's a nice little korean indie flick.

Now that you mention it, I think MARS is also Taiwanese.

Ningyou 01-12-2009 08:45 PM

If all else fails, look it up :P

And Koma was an awesome movie. It's Chinese though.

LinnyLo 01-12-2009 09:12 PM

Has anyone seen the movie Antique Bakery? It came out in 2008. I haven't seen it yet, but I really want to! If only I could get my hands on it! It looks so cute ^^. I'll just have to wait until this summer to get it in Korea, no use trying to find it in America. Stupid.

My Tutor Friend is another adorable movie!

pumpum 01-28-2009 08:30 AM

hey the best films by far i watched in 2008 were all korean - really amazing films far far away in a league of their own - i have already posted a list of some of themn elsewhere on here (cant be arsed to rehash) but if korean films continue to be of same quality then come on 2009 !!!!

xYinniex 01-28-2009 10:40 AM

100 days with mr arrogant.
Kim Jae won has a beautiful beautiful smile,
I swear everytime a korean guy smiles, it's like the sun shining, even if its not. XD. It's those eyes. XD

Ningyou 01-28-2009 04:00 PM

Or lips. Korean people have nice lips. :)
