Orchestral Music.

I've been buying and downloading albums from various movie and game soundtracks, and I've noticed that I have a few... different types of songs that give a different feeling each time.

Seeing as they made by using an orchestra, it's what I love about it. It sends tingles up my spine, and I just imagine the surroundings around me.

So, do you have any sort of songs, that give you different feelings? Like an eerie, or epic feeling?

And note: Please, keep this void of rock, pop , jazz type of music. Only orchestral.

xYinniex 01-19-2009 01:45 AM

like instrumentals?
Yeaah i get that, but i wouldn't really call it classical.

I find drama instrumentals are really soothing,
i really really LOVE yiruma's music. his piano playing is so so soothing. my body just relaxes after hearing it

Salvanas 01-19-2009 01:49 AM

You could say that. I was thinking of more... orchestral type. Like in movies. Like Lord of the rings, Jurassic Park etc. etc.

Which ones?

And I personally.. don't know. I find most movie music amazing.

I'll find my most fav orchestral music now.

For one of pure epicness, and adding a chill to the atmosphere, it definitely has to be the WoW Wrath of the Lich King Main title: YouTube - World of Warcraft - Wrath of the Lich King main title

However, for spine chilling music: YouTube - Wrath of the Lich King Soundtrack: Dragon's Rest .

A hint: Turn up your volume to VERY LOUD to get the full feeling.

Excessum 01-19-2009 02:12 AM

A lot of work by Vangelis, Mike Oldfield, J. M. Jarre, Michael Nyman and other New Age composers.

As for Classical music... I don't really listen to it much, but when I do, J.S. Bach is my top pick, if i am looking for the epic-ness =)

The Soundtrack to the movie "Collateral" love the song by Saliva on it.cant think of the name right now.

ivi0nk3y 01-19-2009 02:43 AM

Final Fantasy music, whether it is orchestrated or not, is epic.
I love the music in Miyazaki movies. The soundtrack to his stuff is awesome especially to Spirited Away.
Movies always have great orchestrated music. Recently though, (even though its old news now) the music for the trailer of Star Craft 2 is exciting to say the least.
From Star Trek to Gladiator, Law & Order to Angel, I love it all.

I thought that movie wasn't that great but it had some good music. Especially with the scene when Jamie Foxx loses it while driving and they put on Audioslave - Shadows On The Sun.

minimin 01-19-2009 04:50 AM

I love "Aeris Theme" "Holiding My Thoughts in my Heart" "Anxious Heart" from Final Fantasy Seven, Aeris theme is so beautiful and sad, and I love "To Zanarkand" from Final Fantasy Ten, "Liberi Fatali" from Final Fantasy Eight Nobuo Uematsu makes such lovely, beautiful music not from Movies I know, but Epic YES. ^_^

I always liked epic movies, and the music always helps me transport myself into the action, or get the feeling of the moment.

I don't have much of it thoug, thanks for the tips everybody, I'm going to download my ass off today:vsign:

XDemianu27X 01-19-2009 03:34 PM

Well I'm not really sure of the names of the songs so I'll just go by where I heard the music...

~There's a really common song that's in many movies which I love. I last saw it in the new Babalon movie trailers.

~In advent children during the fight scene with Tifa.... the piano song was awesome and somehow gave me that epic feel you're describing.

~The opening and ending music to pretty much every Star Wars movie.

Honestly I could spend hours listing tons more of these.... oh well, I'm sure ya'll will come up with others that I'm thinking of.

I agree with you there. ALL Final Fantasy music is epic, even the FF XII soundtrack which wasn't Uematsu's work.

As for movie OST and it's composers I'd go for:

Vangelis, for his really epic scores like the "Chariots of Fire" and "1492: Conquest of Paradise". But I like "Blade Runner" most, probably because of how Vangelis tried to depict the future.

Joe Hisaishi, he really made some awesome music Kitano's for Miyazakis films. I like to exclude "Kikujirou" and "Spirited Away" as my favourite.

Ryuichi Sakamoto. When it comes to movie soundtrack I like most of his scores, his famous "Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence" score. , "Snake eyes" which was very different from the movie itself and wasn't suitable for it, but, nonetheless, really good, "Gohatto" which gave a really mysterious atmosphere to me, and "Tony Takitani" which has some of the most depressing tracks ever.

Thomas Newman, for "American Beauty".

Crani 01-19-2009 08:40 PM

Who hasn't heard this one?

forgotenmemory 01-19-2009 08:45 PM

Well, the instrumental in the begining is cool. What's it called? In this video, I mean. >.>YouTube - No Heroes left in men-Scar

LinnyLo 01-19-2009 09:07 PM

The best movie soundtrack I've ever heard is from Memoirs of a Geisha. Even if you don't like the movie, the music is amazing! I also like the music from the Lord of the Rings movies, and House of Flying Daggers.

Nobuo Uematsu is definitly epic. To Zanarkand is my favorite by him.

I also like Andre Rieu. He doesn't do music for movies, but he plays music from movies. It's super ^^

minimin 01-19-2009 09:32 PM

have you listened to Mark Mancina he's composed some awesome music, my favorite from him would be "Diva" YouTube - [Blood+ OST] Diva - Mark Mancina this song is well Epic to me. :)

Not sure is anyone mentioned this but I loved the soundtrack to Gladiator by Hans Zimmer Especially the song "Now We Are Free" YouTube - Gladiator - 'Now We Are Free' Music Video

Every time I hear the opening bars of the Battle Spaceship Yamato theme, a tear comes to my eye, and I have to fight the impulse to jump to my feet with a hand over my heart.

[That's Starblazers to those who still remember it!] :D

That Starblazers theme reminded me of Speed Racer - a real classic masterpiece.

That was one of the best anime ever made. Excuse me.... I think I got something in my eye *tear*

The soundtrack to the movie "10". Why?
Maurice Ravel's Bolero....This is the one for me. It will always be the one for me. The way is begins...the way it ends...it's very passionate...seriously...I was so stoked to play this in my HS band back in the day...
A close second is from LOTR-Return Of The King
...the whole soundtrack is so damn powerful...I miss my band geek days...
YouTube - Lord of the Rings: Return of the King Soundtrack
As far as game soundtracks...
Kingdom Hearts 1
(Dearly Beloved, the orchestral version of "Simple & Clean", Dive Into The Heart...wow!)
Kingdom Hearts II
(Orchestra version of "Passion", Organization XIII, Waltz Of The Damned, Monochrome Dreams, Adventures In The Savannah, Showdown At Hollow Bastion---yea I can go on)
& I recently downloaded this from itunes-
Diablo III Overture-Russell Brower & The Eminence Symphony Orchestra
YouTube - Diablo III - Overture (Soundtrack)
I know I was floored when I 1st heard it.

Wish I can do a Winterguard show to these...*sniffs

allie2590 01-20-2009 04:06 AM

I don't know if anyone's played it, but the soundtrack from Baten Kaitos for GCN is really epic. It gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it. :D Orchestra music in general tends to have that effect on me though.

Yuna7780 01-20-2009 04:29 AM

Classic music in general makes me think of spring rain, which I like. It's relaxing and I enjoy it.

I feel very refreshed when you listen to the soundtracks of movies or music without lyrics.

Music that makes me REALLY happy, it's scary, is the music from Sweeney Todd. Regardless if people sing or not, it just gets me pumped and in a much better mood.

ThuMpeR 01-20-2009 09:10 PM

"Superman theme" and "The planet Krypton"

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers' "Golum's Song"

hearing music from Megaman video games makes me want to dance

forgotenmemory 01-21-2009 01:20 AM

No no, this is perhaps one of the best musical numbers. :D

Two of my favorite instrumental songs ever:

Composer: Yasunori Mitsuda - "The Treasure That Cannot Be Stolen".

Composer: Yasunori Mitsuda - "Tears of the Stars, Hearts of the People".

You and me both!

I just luuuv this instrumental song called At The End Of The Day by the Swedish Hard Core band By Night. They are really heavy and agressive but this song just brings me to tears. Great guitars and violins...

Rayfain 01-26-2009 07:31 PM

Manowar pumps me up. Most of their songs have a tendency to make me feel ready to face anything.

Shiningmonkey 01-27-2009 01:24 AM

Oh, Sleeper definitely gives me that epic feeling.

ThirdSight 01-27-2009 03:38 AM

- Anything from Final Fantasy, especially Sephiroth's Theme and the Boss Fight Music.
- Another FF, Aerith's Theme. Beautiful. I was writing a short story listening to this softly on repeat, and I broke down at the end. Moving as hell.
- Within Temptation. Not entirely orchestrical(sweetjesusthat'sahorribletypo), and sounds a bit like Evanescence, but their music definately gives an epic feel to it.
- The S&M album from Metallica (I think that's the album), that has an entire orchestra behind it. Four Leaf Clover? It's hard to get much more epic than that.
- Opening themes from WoW. Especially the new one. Goosebumps everytime I hear it and/or watch the opening cinamatic.

Acidreptile 01-29-2009 11:22 PM

Behemoth-Ceremony Of Shiva.

swissgeek 01-29-2009 11:34 PM

Epic? hum... Requiem for a dream.

dont look at this if you havent finished Zelda Twilight Princess or dont care about it. Spoil alert!

OliveJuice 01-30-2009 05:00 AM

I don't think that I could name a particular song, but I LOOOVE heavy drums or a really bottomed out bass, lots of strings.

And not to be crude, but a well-played electric guitar...... flat out gets me off. Sorry lol.

ilovemusic. <3

Jaydelart, I absolutely love MOVE, and Dogfight myself, and that's a great video, but the opening post states to please keep all music you submit, or add to this thread to be only Orchestral, no rock or any other music.

I'm sure you can think of another song. I know it has Orchestral qualities with the type of intro it has, but does it count?

I believe he is looking for non-lyrical songs.

Aye. Kanji got the nail on the head. It's plainly Orchestral music I'm talking about.

And thanks for changing the title.
