New MSN Version is out x3

Since yesterday I use with some of my friends the new msn version x3 at first I was thinking that the messenger not really changed but I was wrong *-* it has a lot new stuff in it and the designe looks really different !
For me personaly what I love on the new msn is that I can use now my own animatad avatar x3 and my computer is getting faster with the new version the old one slowed my Laptop down x) .
what do you like on the new msn ? x3

MissMisa 01-22-2009 10:19 AM

I got it, and I completely hated it, and my computer wouldn't let me uninstall it so I had to do a system restore. It looks pretty but for me it's really not functional and accessing the menus and stuff that was easy to find became a right pain, so I went back to my old one because I just prefer the options.

When I looked at how much memory it was taking up it seemed to be more than the old MSN, maybe because of all the graphics and the adverts and high res images and stuff. I don't know for sure.

I also use MSN Plus and it didn't seem to like the new MSN at all.

So that's my verdict on it. I don't know anyone else who has got it yet because I advised them all not to, maybe it's just a personal thing on my point of view. Normally I love to update my software, but this just felt like a step backward for me.

Anemic 01-22-2009 10:19 AM

Is it packed with advertisment like the other ones? Might wait until someone makes a program to customize it.

CrazyLee 01-22-2009 11:10 AM

I'll download it and try it out....it might be useful for a friend of mine. His MSN is always going on the fritz.

Edit: got it. It looks nicer, but I'll wait until someone starts talking to me on it before I decide if its any good.

No, just ugly.

Big buttons does not make something cool and the colour fading just pops eye blood vessels.

big buttons?!?!? x) no they are tiny oO

Bureda 01-22-2009 02:52 PM

You need your eyes checked then. That bulky piece of crap does not compare to msn 8.0

x) your so nice  well no oO nobody has probs with it of my friends . and it all works better than before !

Bureda 01-22-2009 02:58 PM

I don't see how it works better?

Old version:
- You add someone
- You talk to them
- Webcam and sound works

New version:
- You add someone
- You talk to them
- Webcam and sound still works

Has the core changed? No, all it has now is big bulky templates, colours that fade mashed and more advertising.

Strange you say that? Has been faster and used less resources on every computer I've installed it upon. Works fine on my 700Mhz system. Can't say that for 8.0 or 8.5.

Tsuzuki 01-22-2009 03:01 PM

how I told you before x) it makes my computer faster :P and I can use my animated avatar pics :P AND o.o for the rest I use skype X) :P:P:P so doesn't really matter to me x3

138 MB for the new msn.

whereas to 18 MB for the old one.

CrazyLee 01-22-2009 03:03 PM

As a friend of mine would put it: its shiny ;). I'll be honest, I like it. Its handy, looks better and works fine. I've had no problem with it so far.

LOL, that is the size for the entire Live Suite, not just the messenger. Messenger is only 25MB. Even with the slight increase in disk space, it doesn't use as much RAM.

Yes, just like before >.>
However new version of A-Patch will get rid of these, the same as it did for last versions

Kanji_The_Wanderer 01-22-2009 03:11 PM

Advertisements? Where? If you are talking about the news page that pops up when you log on, you can shut it off.... Oh, you must mean at the bottom below friend's list, that's never bothered me.

It's basically the same as the old one. The new one just has more color templates and options. Some of the menus are more detailed. You can also see when your friends update their photos and change with heading and display photo. I think it's neat.

The only thing I don't like on this version, you can't set a background wallpaper for each conversation.... Oh well.

I've always liked MSN Live more then other messengers, for me it's always seemed more involved, and customizable.

CrazyLee 01-22-2009 03:13 PM

You kind of can...its just not as big and doesnt cover the whole screen anymore. Its the only problam I have with it, otherwise its awesome.

Check what? I captured the files that the installer downloads. I have used those same files to install on other systems. Might surpise you to know that I can read a file size. File size is only is only 138MB if you bypass the online installer and download the offline files. Which just happens to be the entire Live Suite!

Livesuit is an installer, and when you ask the installer to install just msn its 138 MB.

There is no package, there's just MSN that you ask it to install.

The New MSN is simply for retards. You have big buttons as if you're in need of some assistance.

I like the old one.

It's compact, its neat and everything be smooth.

Yeah, that was a source of irritation for me as well. But it is a minor one.

*SIGH* If you only select messenger during the install, then it only downloads two CAB files. One for messenger itself at 24,358KB, and the second is for a update to the contact manger at 910KB. That is it! As long as you don't check all the other boxes you don't get anything else!!

... and what big buttons are you talking about???

Like I said by only selecting msn it it 138 MB. As for RAM complaints? for me it has not been running smooth .I can play games fine and still run MSN. Where as the new one. It's bulky and needs space for it to display properly, otherwise the background colours make it hard to read text. The shiny gloss as well irritates the eyes.

Can run games fine, keep a small msn window. no need for the bulkiness of 'colourful' templates.

On a side note Bureda: what game is that?

[BIG *** PICTURE REMOVED]

Yeah, the scenes (templates) are not selected in default configuration, so if you don't want it, don't choose it. As for size of the windows it hasn't changed, unless you change that also. Defaults are the same size as 8.0, so again, if you don't like it don't change it. As for the colors, I have to agree I found the Vista Aero color scheme to irritate my eyes. Nothing new, as I have some vision problems. Was, easy to change the colors to something darker.

Now my big question is, "what does that BIG *** screen shot you posted have to do with Messenger???"

*** In the end I don't care what version of MSN you are using. If you want to keep 8.0, that's fine. But don't tell everyone that the new version is only for "RETARDS"!

It's bulky and those extra pixels accumulated around the avatars add to its flexibility.

The picture shows that i run RAM and CPU demanding applications daily and there's no worry for ram. The game + many other applications run at a time.

I stand firm that the new msn is made for handicaps.

It's simple, because he is not worth me getting serious about.

Moved uneeded posts.

No-one I know has got it and I didn't like it when I got it myself. I'll probably get the version after this one.
