What do Japanese people like from America?
Hi, I am heading to Japan next week and want to bring some food/gifts from America...Seattle, in particular. Got any suggestions for me? I want to take over things that you can't find in Japan. Thanks!

Seattle has tons of little nick-nacks that are Seattle themed... they love little keychains and that type of crap... that's probably better than food/snacks.

I just went through this with friends heading home to Japan wanting to take home SMALL souvenirs Wednesday. We ended up an handfuls cell phone charms, postacards, and key chains with Texas flags, Longhorns and Armadillos on them.
One of the Americans with us who had gone to school there kept trying to convince everyone we should grab lots of typical American foods and candies, but the idea didn't go over well with either of the two Japanese. There is also a question of customs. Does Japan not restrict what foods a private individual can bring into the country? Sure candy is probably ok, but what about meats, fruits and vegetables? Everywhere I have traveled in the Western hemisphere those are usually strictly regulated. |
It's true- alot of meats and vegetables are really well regulated.
They wouldn't even let me bring Curry back from Japan... because even though it didn't actually contain meat- it was beef flavored... Pretty ridiculous-- stick with keychains! |
