JET program going down? - 04-08-2009, 02:49 PM

I'm sorry, I think I posted this in the wrong area, and maybe my eyes or my brain isn't working, but I haven't seen a thread about it...(if there is, mods, do your thing and I apologize.)

But I was talking to my boyfriend, and talking about options after I finish college.
I thought aloud about looking into the JET program, but he said that it doesn't look like it'll last much longer...

apparently the government may stop it, because it caused the taxpayers so much to bring in teachers from other countries to teach english...?

Can someone update me on this?

Or give me more info?

I'm sorry for the trouble.

The human resources and money for upholding JET program is getting worse from what I heard.

This recession would be the lowest point of JET's history.

Kayci, I am not a Jet so I can't say for sure, but a friend of mine did just mention that they are planning to restructure the program and that getting accepted is becoming more difficult.

The number of applicants being accepted is being reduced because the number of students is falling due to population decline.
