What's wrong with Americans?

Sorry if there is already a thread for this.

I don't like America very much, but it is my homeland and I get very offended when someone says that Americans are lazy and stupid. Not all Americans are like that. I am not lazy and I'm actually very smart. I study in and out of school. What's up with all these stereotypes against Americans?? I hear it all the time and most of it isn't completely true! Please inform. Arigato.

alanX 04-15-2009 10:40 PM

I'm American. And I'm lazy and stupid.

XOXkAWAIiXOX 04-15-2009 10:43 PM

T_T .........that doesn't help at all.

THAT'S IT!!!!! I'M LEAVING THIS COUTRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

cridgit001 04-15-2009 10:44 PM

I'll buy you a ticket to Mexico so you can get caught by drug lords and sent back in a pizza box.

alanX 04-15-2009 10:45 PM

Oh, I absolutely love my country. Just not Americans. Or the government. Or the culture. Or really anything about America. I just love the land.

Oh, and in all seriousness, good luck with leaving America! That's my plan as well.

SephirothVVC 04-15-2009 10:46 PM

im totally agreeing with you on that......except im going to expand it to the entire earth....all people just suck

XOXkAWAIiXOX 04-15-2009 10:48 PM

Well thanks for proving my point =/ you really helped.....

Ugh... That's why I study so hard, so I CAN leave the country.

I like Obama's plan, but it will never work beacause nobody understands it, so nobody will work with it. It gives us eco-friendly stuff, more jobs, and will bring us back up. Why doesn't anyone see that?

I could care less about all the eco friends tree-hugging crap. That's not what I'm worried about.

You should be more worried about the government spending almost 5 billion to plant trees in random states, rather than using that money to feed hungry children. Which is what Obama did.

Don't you care about the world? Didn't you notice the climate change?? I agree that Obama should care more about people, but at least he's trying to make a difference. And before we give money to the people, the economy has to go back up.

That's true.
However:

Spend 5 million dollars on starving children > spend 5 million dollars on planting trees

Of course, I do care about the world. Don't even get me started on global warming. Do you get your information from Al Gore? Did I mention he invented the internet? (sarcasm)

The Earth gets warmer, and it gets colder. It's a cycle. And now, we are in the warmer period. There's no global warming.

XOXkAWAIiXOX 04-15-2009 11:11 PM

Al Gore? No, I am not Al Gore.

I'm guessing you're against Obama. Are you Republican?

Sorry, that was a political joke.

Yes, I'm a Republican.

"Against" Obama sounds sort of strange. But I haven't agreed with anything he's done so far.

Sinestra 04-15-2009 11:21 PM

Sigh its not very hard to answer your question as you stated the answer in your opening statement. Its called stereotyping and its not just Americans its every other country as well. Everyone has preconceptions about another race or another culture.

Now i will ask the mods to close this thread because of the impending flaming that will occur shortly. You all should know how things get around here.

XOXkAWAIiXOX 04-15-2009 11:21 PM

Uh huh... I used to side with the republicans until I realized that they aren't helping the country.

Obama has done a lot so far. He banned stem cell research for people who wanted to duplicate humans. He's trying to end the war and terrorism by making peace with Islam. He has a great plan (although I don't exactly agree with it because I know it won't work) and he's trying to make America more eco-friendly.

Well thanks for actually answering my question, but I want this thread to keep going. I'm curious.

SephirothVVC 04-15-2009 11:22 PM

seriously?! no one knows why throwing something in the trash that is bio-degradable in a PLASTIC bag is STUPID?!!!!!!!!

i give up, just proves my point i guess

A person who stereotypes someone based on the country they come from, which has thousands and thousands of people, would probably be stupid, or at least misguided themselves. I wouldn't worry what people say about where you are from.

I understand that you are curious and thats cool. Just be prepared for a lot of anti American sentiment it happens when you create this kind of thread. If you can manage to keep everyone on topic and it doesn't result in war then you might get some real answers. If not be prepared for it to be closed.

Oh i forgot to mention as much i hate to say it, Americans are very spoiled i have learned this after traveling so much.

That makes sense, but so many countries hate America and trying to live my life in one of those countries with an American background will be highly difficult for me.

I'm ready. *whimper* And I agree! Why should America get all these nice things when every other country out there works a minimum of 10 times harder than we do?

OK. That makes sense, but I don't think people should hate us for things like that. I can't change it. Why should I be stereotyped because of the country I was born in?

Hmm... I guess, but it's going to be very difficult to earn that respect. Also, I'm very stubborn so that may make it even harder....

It's a great plan, but it won't work...which makes it a bad plan? And by the way, from the actions Islam has taken already, they don't seem to be the peace making types, I mean maybe it's just me, but blowing everyone to peices doesn't seem to me, very peaceful? Oh and out of curiousity (in all seriousness) how does banning stem cell research help the country?

Its actually not that difficult as i have stated i have traveled quite a lot. Like SephirothVVC said once they get to know you it wont be a problem. I have experienced very little problems when people find out American abroad at most i get bombarded with questions. I just answer them and not in a jack ass sort of way.

When you get yourself psyched out that you are going have problems in other countries because your American it makes it that much harder for you to leave the nest. Be WHO you are and remember WHERE you are when residing in another country and you will be fine.

Americans being spoiled is just the way our culture has progressed. We a lot of modern convinces that other countries do not have hence we don't have to do as much as some. When we lose that convince Americans tend to whine and cry about because it directly effects them. Its just the way things but again that part of American culture is at the root of the stigma about us.

I would definately agree with what Sinestra said, but also you being stubborn is YOUR problem not theirs. Not trying to be a dick, but seriously.

Obama is trying to make peace with Islam because of what Bush did... just went in there and blew everything up. Obama's trying to stop that. He told the Islamic government, "America will never be at war with Islam." At first I didn't agree with it beacause they are the terrorists, but now that I actually look at it, it's a great idea. It's a way to stop terrorism. I know it won't happen in the near future, but "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step"--Confucious. And stem-cell research doesn't affect the economy, but using it for reseans that will just cause chaos is a bad idea. Using for medical research is a good thing, which is why Obama said that stem-cell research will only be aloud for that purpose only.

Yes I know....

Sangetsu 04-16-2009 12:22 AM

Hate or dislike is often the result of envy, and America has a lot to envy. It's not perfect, but you won't find another place in the world like it. I've traveled for many years, and I've been to many places, but there is no place like America.

Those Americans who seem to complain the most about their country are generally well-off and spoiled. They are unhappy with their lives in one way or another, and looking for something or someone to blame other than themselves for their unhappiness. They live in a country where college graduates expect to enter careers earning high 5 or 6 (or 7) figure incomes, while half of the world lives on less than 2 dollars a day.

The average American household has more than two cars, where most of the world's households can't afford to buy new shoes for their children. Even the poorest American household will have a color television, while most of the world will only see a television through a store window.

These Americans that "hate America" have no idea how lucky they are. In a world of billions, more than than half of who live in poverty, they were born into a rich society (the "poverty" level in American is $15,000 a year, Barrack Obama's Kenyan half-brother lives on $25 a year) where they can say what they please, go where the please, and enjoy opportunities which are far beyond the wildest dreams of the majority of the world's people.

I'm living in Japan now, but that's not because I dislike America. I live in Japan because I like it here, but I will never love it as much as I love America.

For those who want to really know about America, read the Declaration of Independence, and the Constitution. They are unique documents in the world, the only other that equals them is the Magna Carta. America was founded on the principles of virtue and Right, and the vision those documents created still endures today.

For those Americans who hate America, you should do as I have done, and spend a few years living in the 3rd world. You'll come to appreciate what you have, and see that it's worth loving and defending.
