What do you like about Japan?
Just wondering what attracts everyone on this forum to japan.
For me, it's the culture, the landmarks, the games, the art style etc. |

I like how the majority of Japanese I meet are polite and respectful even though they don't know you. I especially like that it that they seem to be quite mindful of personal space. The other thing that I find powerfully attractive is the high standard of care and detail Japanese people bring to every aspect of their lives no matter what they're doing.
Not so deep: - Their eyes! I love it when they smile because they look so sweet :D - Food! Omnomnom 200kg gaijin incoming  - Duuuude...DORAEMON! :vsign: |
I've been working here in Japan since March of last year and it's defenitly been the best year of my life so far.
I love how the country isn't "sue" happy. If you're doing something risky and get hurt or sick, it's your own damn fault for being stupid or just unlucky. I went hiking a couple weeks ago and the public trails we were on were on the side of cliffs. There were no rails or anything, just you and the cliff. Mind you, these are public trails that are traveled every day by hundreds of people for sightseeing. If they were in America they would have rails and stupid things to keep dumb people from getting hurt. It's just so much more beautiful if it's left unaltered by humans and that's why I respect Japan. If the food places here were opened in America, they would be shut down due to health issues. But Oh...My...God..... they're so damn good! I love ordering raw meats at a restaurant, a big pot being put in the middle of your table with coals and a grill, and you get to cook your own damn food the way you want... all while sitting on the floor in a candle lit room with your best friends around you. There's just nothing like that in America. As for the girls.... I don't think Japanese women are any more beautiful than any other race, it's just their clothing styles that set them apart. Where else in the world do girls put on high heels and mini skirts to go grocery shopping? When I first got here I remember seeing girls walking around in "stripper" like clothing and thought to myself that they're whores, but I guess it's just the norm... and I'm damn ok with that :D I also like the language of Japan. I love the way it sounds and how beautiful it looks on paper. Speaking about Kanji... although beautiful, I actually think it's dumb. The only way to learn to read a certain Kanji word is to have someone teach you. You can't just look at Kanji and sound it out like you can with romanji (english letters). It's kind of sad when you see a really smart person have trouble reading their own language. I could keep going on and on... |

To be honest, there are very few things about Japan that don't interest me. In no particular order, just to name a few.. Music, Movies/Dramas/Anime, Culture/history, Language...the list goes on
