The Joker Vs. Tony Montana

me and my younger brother had an argument the other day.

i say that Heath Ledger's (R.I.P.) portrayal of the joker was some of the best acting i've ever seen.

and he seems to feel like the joker was good, BUT he thinks Al Pacino did way better playing Tony Montana.

dont get me wrong scarface was dope, and al pacino did good, but i can see someone else as scarface if it were to come about again.

nobody on the planet can ever play the joker again in my eyes though.

i know you you have your own ideas if you've seen both movies, if you havent seen either the dark knight or scarface then SHAME SHAME SHAME ON YOU!

lol what do you think?????
THE JOKER? (HEATH LEDGER)
OR
TONY MONTANA? (AL PACINO)

iPhantom 05-08-2009 11:40 PM

Both great actors but I find the acting of Al Pacino vastly superior. Not only as Tony Montana but as Michael Corleone as well. Those two are the greatest acts i have ever seen.

Debi 05-08-2009 11:42 PM

Sorry buddy, but Al Pacino is for me the best of the best
Heath Ledger was awesome as the Joker. でも, I can't bite the hand of my favorite actor ever.

i have no arguments, al pacino did well in scarface and many other movies

my favorite actor isnt either, but my favorite two acting jobs come from the two movies and actors mentioned, but like i said, i gave it to heath as the joker

Whois your favorite actor ?

Me its definitely Pacino because the Godfather is my favorite movie ever.
To give you an idea, the Godfather can play non-stop at my place for a very long time. I'm not really watching but when I know an awesome scene is coming up, I go in the living room and watch it.

Hmm but yea.. we were talking about Scarface right... duh >.<

Kanji_The_Wanderer 05-08-2009 11:58 PM

In my opinion Scarface is way over rated. I watched the movie once and I didn't feel like it was worth half the hype it gets. Sure, it's well acted, and the cinematography is nice . It made me wonder if people liked it just because it was a blood bath.
I've preferred Pacino much more in his recent films. I feel he has become a much better actor now then he was when he was younger.
So my vote is unanimous.

hahahaha yea
and to me the godfather is overrated
no im not a fan
to be honest i dont know any1 who really likes the godfather even tho its extremely popular. but yea thats a different thread lol

my favorite actor is will smith and ninomiya kazunari........
im not just a will smith fan cus he's will smith, i recognize real actors, and as a real actor he is one, he can play anybody, do anything, and his acting is always on point.....the same goes for ninomiya kazunari
ive seen everything hes been in
his range is amazing
he could play me in a movie if he wanted to, and im being serious
he can be serious
funny
mentally challenged
smart
dumb, it doesnt matter, between the two of them thats who it is, i cant pick one.

about the godfather again, most if not all the actors in the godfather are pretty great...there was just something about it i did NOT like, i cant put my finger on it

I thought I thought Scarface was one of the best movies ever, then I rewatched it a couple years ago, and was surprised at how over-the-top it is. I think Pacino is a great actor, but this role is too much. Heath Ledger's Joker was much more emotionally disturbing.

rison 05-09-2009 12:20 AM

Al pacino as Tony Montana. That character actually inspired quite a number of people that I know of, not towards killing though.

Heath Ledger as Joker was good but I cant actually understand what exactly he wanted.

what do you mean exactly he wanted??

if you liked scarfice id also recommend the departed or infernal affairs
the departed is a remake of infernal affairs, a chinese movie
leonardo dicaprio matt damon and jack nicholsan did great in the departed

If anything, The Dark Knight is WAAAAY overrated. It was even before release. Heath Ledger sure did a masterpiece but he gets more credit than he deserves, all due to his death.

u might be the only person on the planet that thinks that

SephirothVVC 05-09-2009 12:28 AM

both movies were over-rated IMO

Compaqmac321 05-09-2009 12:29 AM

i just figured out wat IMO means
lol

@sephiroth
then what movie do you feel had a character that was played the best no the best movie, but an actor who played a character flawlessly

There are quite a few people who think this. I can't say I disagree. He did a phenomenal job as the joker and I still like it better than scarface. But I think the movie got way more attention than it would have because of his untimely demise.

Compaqmac321 05-09-2009 12:42 AM

this movie and his portrayal of the joker was heavily talked about months before he died though
ppl dont remember that because he did die before the release of the movie
i remember hearing about how good he was as the joker in like november 07

Every episode of Batman that I've seen with the Joker in it had it that he was up to something not just wanting to cause chaos or kill the Batman as in this case.

His charater was a bit over rated. I'll have to agree.

The departed is actually a good movie.

im not sure..ive seen so many movies, it would take me a while to come up with an answer

Compaqmac321 05-09-2009 12:48 AM

ohh ok
he was up to something in this movie tho
causing chaos, and getting rid of petty criminals who were scared of batman
and u cant just start a character from nothing, u have to introduce him, just because its batman and hes the joker doesnt mean everyone who saw the movie knew about the joker, there are tons of ppl who have never read a batman graphic novel or comic, and seen the cartoon.

thats why a lot of ppl including myself had problems with superman, even tho i knew what they were doing, most ppl didnt know what the hell was going on in superman because they started from somewhere that no1 was really familiar with, they just said, well heres superman lex luthor and louis lane, everybody knows them! and thats wrong

Nicole Kidman in "The Hours"
Robert Di niro in "Casino"
They actually played their parts well without hype, read the reviews.

I never like any Superman just for the reasons you made.

Compaqmac321 05-09-2009 01:15 AM

ive seen those movies, they werent amazing to me

to me denzel washington as malcom x and the hurricane were official too.

have you ever seen any of the supermans with christopher reeves?

Salvanas 05-09-2009 01:24 AM

On topic wise, out of both Al Pacino wins hands down.

Don't get me wrong, Heath was amazing as the Joker. Spectacular. However, Al Pacino never fails to impress with his acting. Simply amazing.

Getting more attention because of a lead actor's death and being overrated are two different things.

exactly, heath dying might sell tickets, but im not talking about sales or even the movie itself
hes had another movie after batman that ppl rarely even mention (it comes out this year)
but ppl mention batman and the joker cus his acting was legit, and that was way before he died

You asked for films were characters were played flawlessly and I listed some, the films dont have to made great impression.

those movies you listed also are right but in Training Day, the acting was almost flawless.

i have but Batman movies have always been better organised story-line terms.

Compaqmac321 05-09-2009 01:35 AM

training day too, i just thought that alot of ppl didnt see it so i didnt mention it
and what i meant was they werent played that flawlessly to me
even tho the hours got oscar nods and won

I think you are missing the point here, the characters is what is being discussed here not the film as a whole, right? Heath Ledger might play Joker well while the film is overrated.

im not missing the point, i made the thread
and NICOLE KIDMAN got the oscar for her role in the hours so im not talking about the movie.
the only time i mentioned something about movies itself was when some1 said they thought both movies were overrated, and i made a side comment on that

its always been about the characters, like i stated from the start

No-Body will ever touch Scarface - thats simple

joker was okay but can never touch scarface - not close - scarface is the ultimate and will always be.

keep it real.

haha you sound like my brother
i just realized that a lot of ppl on the site may have never seen scarface...
i didnt see it until i was in the 11th grade so like 2004

rison 05-09-2009 02:15 AM

Al-pacino's character made the movie Scarface what it was which Joker couldnt do.
People went to the cinemas to watch Al which is different from watching the Dark Knight with Joker as just a villian.

There is no comparison man.

dawg you can like al pacino as scarface more than heath ledger as the joker, idc, b4 the dark knight came out scarface was number one for me in acting. but what u say is based off of what??? how do u know ppl went to see scarface just for al pacino? scarface came out how many years ago?? so u went to the movies to see it? which theater? which 1983 newspaper or magazine did u read to get these facts. and how do you know ppl didnt go see batman just for heath ledger? your generalizing things that you cant cus you dont know everyone who saw the movie. which is something im not doing.

and heath ledger as the joker MADE the dark knight. he out acted EVERYONE in that movie, so to say its something the joker couldnt do doesnt make a bit of sense.

evidently there is a comparison because the poll results show 5 to 6.

No wonder you and your brother been arguing over it. Just look at the poll result and its pretty much 50/50.

idc if u like al pacino's better i just want different opinions, some that support mine and some that support his

KEEP IT COMING!

rison 05-09-2009 02:35 AM

i'm not generalising, I was born in '83 so I didnt gott o the cinemas to see it, but people who did tell stories about it.To get the facts right, have the research perhaps in your neighbour about people who saw it then.

Young people like us would only think scarface was overrated and I dont think dark knight is overrated but Joker' character...I really cant point at anything that impressed me except that he was unstable (typical of Joker), seriously.

pumpum 05-09-2009 02:37 AM

I have watched Scarface change unstreetwise kids into live wires !! for real the film is dripping with balls and power - so much so it leaves you hyped after you watch it!!!

batman was good but it didnt do that lol

NOW your making sense to me. you gave me a reason, everyones opinion is valued, and i dont care which one u thought was better, idc if u thought the joker was done terribly cus thats your opinion, i wont argue because either way i can see where your coming from no matter which u pick.

to most older ppl like my parents and my old babysitters, scarface was dope, even to me, not just the character but the story it told, and the come up he made, showed ppl a world theyve never seen.....like i said pick which ever. i dont mind
as long as u pick....u came here with a choice and u made one
itd be different if u came here and said both were wack and left. lol
