It's clear that the American military government around 1945-1953 hijacked the South Korean sovereignty to today. There has been no functional democracy in South Korea for decades.

North Korea is the huge victim of the Sino-Soviet Split in the 1960s that degenerated its own country.

The Korean peninsula somehow become an offering item of a gruesome sacrifice of the western and westernized world.

While I do agree that Korea became a "pawn" in the western/Russian era conflicts, I wouldn't say thats the whole case today. There are a myriad of circumstances all intertwined into the whole set up, lableing any one of those as the primary reason for how things are today, perhaps over simplifies things too much.

I understand the desire to have straight bad guys and good guys, it would make things easier. However, life tends to be far more complicated, it's why conflicts can be so messy. Korea's case is similer to a family dispute with outsiders getting involved and just makeing things a huge mess. Just haveing the "outsiders" leave could cause far more problems than it solves though, because everyone is so intertwined at this point.

Remember Korea used to be called "the Hermit Kingdom". Yes, leave Korea alone and everybody's happy.

The American government still controls South Korea (via GNP) and Japan (via LDP).

The good news is that Japan's LDP is collapsing down, which means America no longer controls Japan in the near future.

but I think the problem is that North Korea's main claim to fame is that it want's the "imperialists", that's the US out of South Korea, although they keep forgetting they are their because of North Korea's constant threat to the region.

Even if they are bluffing, using missiles and Nuclear development to play the game must be taken seriously, afterall, they are also targetting the US and Japan.

And then we have the added attraction of the North's "Dear Leader".

The guy that let's half his population of people live in extreme filth and disease ridden poverty with small children scarping the sidewalks for a crumb.

It's a difficult situation, that's for sure..

Isn't it ironic that the Japanese government never thinks about criminalizing the Chosen Soren?

And North Korea, and China, and the Phillipines, and Indonesia, and Vietnam, and several Pacific islands.

There has been several South Korean movies dealing with North Korea, most of them are in a neutral light, some few of them are in a very negative light.

In South Korea, North Korea is portrayed either:

1. evil
2. just another decent country, but not very friendly.
