Just being alive makes me happy...

I've been through some pretty horrible crap but that's in my past and I think it makes me stronger...if I hadn't gone through it and survived I wouldn't be the person I am today. And I'm one uping the a** by going to college and shooting ahead of him in education, and I have my life in order and my head on straight while he's almost 25 and still trying to figure things out. Coldly that makes me extra happy ;)

Being a Survivor makes me happy.

People/Humans will never stop wanting. No matter how perfect/Satisfied you think you are there is always a flaw.

I beg to differ.
Look into Buddhism.

Eeeeeeeemooooooo! :D

@alanX: You have the right idea, man. I've been practicing Buddhism (in my own little way; I ain't exactly a monk!) for about 8 years now, and it definitely has helped me stay more positive than I would otherwise. It's all about mindfulness. Being mindful REALLY helps things!

But to answer the OP... I'll be HAPPY when I get a JOB. :crykitty:

Do you follow the Eightfold Path? This will get you in the right mindset, which is the basis for meditation. Meditation leads to Enlightenment, which should bring true happiness.

And yes, you're absolutely right.

Yeah, I do when I can, but I'm more focused on mindfulness. I don't really have time these days to sit down for half an hour and do mindfulness meditation, but I try to be mindful in my daily activities. It sure as heck helps when I'm upset.

The other day I got turned down for a job I've been interviewing and working hard to get for a month. For a really bad reason, too. Of course at first I was really upset, but I soon said to myself,

"Is being upset going to get me the job?"
No.
"Is being upset going to make me feel better?"
No.

So I immediately stopped being upset.

It was cool. XD

That doesn't mean you can't be truly happy.
happiness isn't the same as being satisfied, imo.

very true. like pursuit of happiness. you can pursue it, but you will never have it.

Pexster 08-01-2009 11:29 AM

Buddhism it's unrealistic to think that a buddhist would ever get angry/sad/depressed at one point in his life ...unless they were a robot programmed to life only happiness, a human with only a capacity to express one emotion is illogical, anger, sadness, ect. are a natural human emotions...to totally eliminate such emotions would make happiness obsolete; because how would we know what happiness if we didn't have the other emotions to offset it.

There are plenty of times when I've been happy. Mostly it's when I'm around my friends, enjoying times with people. Are some people on this thread saying that they are never happy? Let go of your worries when you're around your friends or enjoying your hobbies, then you should be happy!

What is 'true happines'? I think you're talking about satisfaction, not happiness. Happiness is achieved many times in life.

You can argue that happiness is not eternal, but yes you can be happy at certain times.

I can agree with that. There are many times in life when happiness is achieved. For example, I graduated from high school. My ceremony was so beautiful and best of all, I was with all of my friends on that day. That was one of the most happiest days of my life. I'm still young, so I know I'll have more days like that further on in my life.

ah-ha! something I agree with. I've been doing reading on Buddhism. I really don't understand some aspects of it, but I'm trying.

I also am not yet quite getting how there isn't an "I", but I'm trying to figure it out.

That's a good point.

You know what makes me happy? Candy. Most specifically chocolate. And good music.
