It isn't easy to become well versed in such things.

This is the same deal with saying I've got problems, and then you're an expert on schoolgirl fashion.

I can see you, MMM.

Why would you even go there? I doubt that's a Pandora's Box you want to have reopened.

Maybe to do his research MMM Wiki'd the word Torrent? Which surely has information on seeding and leeching.

I don't think he did Google or Wiki for it, but.

He's talking too naturally. I bet he's got uTorrent stacked right now! Just, knowing his character, he probably also has a dozen applications which keep his IP secret, also.

Luckily, in Thailand, I'm pretty darn safe from legal repercusions of the internet.

Sorry to disappoint Det. Tenchu, but your investigation has run cold.

Also, I had to remove that last post Tenchu. You had some good points, but also a lot of profanity. Try it again without all the swear words.

I thought it was okay when talking about Microsoft?

Unnecessary profanity is unnecessary profanity. After the 5th four-letter word I was left little choice. It just makes bad precedent for the wee ones. You understand.

No. Infact, the only English my step son knows are things like,

"Shut the *** up!"

"*** off!"

"*** you!"

So on. Children are way too sheltered in most houses. It's not cencorship they need, it's responsibility. Learning how to use language appropriatly. Like, only when you're pissed off.

So no, MMM, I don't understand. I'm still getting the hang of this "American-English" we all have to use on JF.

The problem is RIAA doesn't pay the musician for these crimes. They don't care about anything except their own monies.

It seems like focusing on two people and winning large judgments that get media attention, but will likely later be reduced is more of a warning than leeching to me.

I guess thats somewhat a warning rather than a money-leeching. Its like "You see, thats what happens if you DOWNLOAD!"

I misspelled what i wanted to say. (Edited)
My native language aint English, so sometimes might be hard to express what i want to say.

So is it the downloading, or the sharing that got him in so much trouble?

It seems like if you downloaded an album and didn't share it with others they wouldn't be able to sue for that much.

So what do the record companies expect? Like the kid has 1million laying around or something. How do they even collect on such a ridiculous fine?

Sinestra 08-03-2009 10:01 PM

have i downloaded a song via the net of course you would be hard pressed to find anyone who has not done it. Look we all know the consequences for breaking the law (if you didnt know i bet you do now) I know that if i walk into a bank and hold it up steal money that i could and mostly likely will go to jail. Do i think the amount of fines are unfair yes i do however we all know what the outcome could be if we get caught, so whining and crying over it when we do is pointless. By it or dont buy it thats your choice just know if you get caught your FU*****

i do feel bad for the guy thats a lot of money hope the payment plan is reasonable.

If you use torrents, you download and upload at the same time. No choice.

seiki 08-04-2009 03:19 AM

They will garnish your wages forever. and a half.

Tenchu 08-04-2009 04:01 AM

I think, statistically, I have more chance of getting swine flu than I do getting busted downloading...

Isn't that just accepted slavery?

"You downloaded an album -- now you're my slave for eternity." That's justice alright.

Heru 08-05-2009 10:44 PM

Honestly... I hate this.

I mean record companies make tons of money. They rape the artist out of soo much money it's absurd. The majority of their money comes from performances. Especially if they didn't write or produce the music.

As far as dl upload.

The songs I dl, I have them all set to not share. I'm never connected either for extra measure.

I say they should fine the money the artist would make. So..

2000 songs shared to 100 people would be like 200,000 + 2000 you dled making a grand fine of

If we go by the lower end artist.

$20,200.

I believe the lawyers should argue that point. Making the big record companies the bad guys because of how much they pay them. I mean..20,000 per song is just ridiculous.
