If a parent cannot think of another form of discipline OTHER than spanking, it still falls on them for laziness.
There are other forms of effective discipline. But sometimes it takes trying a few different techniques to find one that works.
Pain is immediate, and all living creatures will avoid painful stimuli if possible. It doesn`t necessarily mean they learn anything from the experience though... But it is generally quick, simple, and effective (at least in the short term).

I still think it`s a bit lazy to take that route when there are other often more effective routes that don`t rely on a "fear of pain" factor. And even if that fear of pain is there, it doesn`t mean that there is a real understanding of the reasoning behind it.

Why don`t we scream in public? "Because someone will smack me..." Is not really a very good answer and doesn`t carry over well into real life. Especially past a certain age.
"Because people will stare, parents will be disappointed, and we`ll have to leave immediately." - is a bit more in line with the real reasons behind it. :mtongue:

You can discipline a 10+ year old fairly easily - but I think that spanking them would be silly. Empty threats are the worst then too. It wouldn`t take but a minute for a parent to remove all access to tv, games, pc, etc... But I have yet to see a parent actually REALLY follow up on that kind of threat. Saying it 50 times is only going to tell the kid you don`t really plan to do it. If you say "Do that again, and it`s gone..." and it`s really gone the next time they do said thing... Well, things change.

But it`s way too easy for parents to not bother with real parenting, then just wring their hands, blame society, games, and media... When it`s all their own laziness.

Well, That is true. I just see it as more effective than other. Like, taking away television, going to bed early, or things of that sort. And for some kids, it does work. Not many though.

My parents, well my dad, always followed through with his plans. Sometimes without my notification. I remember one time, in 7th grade, I mouthed off while we were getting ready for work and school. All he said to me was, "Okay, Kelly." When I came home, I found that during his lunch break, he came home and took my TV and stereo out of my room and put them in the garage, leaving me to look an empty entertainment center. He also put a password and timer on the computer. It stayed that way for almost two weeks. Needless to say, I started watching what I said and how I said it.

I know I hate when these girls push me in the hallway and give a loud and obnoxious EXCUSE YOU, if I just got in their way. Yeah teens are rude:mad:

Try not to be a good man\woman,be a man who tries to fix,fix their behaviors up,if you we'rent able to do that,just ignore them because you're wasting your time...:)
and take it as a base in the life,if you did a bad thing to a person,one day someone would do a bad thing to you.
you might sometimes have to itch a bit with them for something i mean you would need someone to help you on studying or something,you gotta be a respected person,make them respect you by acting well to them BUT NEVER let anybody humilliate you just because you're a nice person :)
iam a teen by the way,but i have responsibillities,and i've learned alot through my life,you would ask what responsibillities?
a brothers and sisters who would need you anytime,and you're like their safeplace,that would explain it :)

They really are so rude.

It's not only teens that are rude.

I am so non-rude. LOL. I just wish that they would separate the rude teens from the non-rude ones. They give us a bad name.
