What the hell...

As some of you may know..I haven't talked to my dad in over a year..

Some of you also might know that my B-day is in 4 days..

Most of you know about my drinking accident.

Now, today, I get home and see a piece of mail for me, I open it, it's a card.

It has a shot glass on the front and inside it says. "Cake is for wussies. Happy Birthday."

He wrote.

"Hope your doing well
Love you always, Dad.
Call me if you ever need to talk about anything
*his number*"

I really don't know what to think about this..

Blackmariah 09-24-2009 11:00 PM

I have an idea of how you feel, I haven't talked to my dad in years. Then, last year, he sends me this manuscript that he'd written and a card that says he loves me and I'm a great daughter. The thing is, after that, I haven't heard from him or spoken to him:not for lack of trying. I still don't know how to feel about that.

burkhartdesu 09-24-2009 11:03 PM

Same thing is happening with my girlfriend.

Her estranged father, who she hasn't seen for 8 years, call the other day and is trying to offer her $23,000.

We're going to take it, but it seems a little suspicious.

hinata2 09-24-2009 11:04 PM

i know how it feels i hate my dad for what he did

Columbine 09-24-2009 11:07 PM

As misguided or tasteless and fumbling as it might be, it seems almost like that's a strange attempt at a light, chummy joke. A blokey "man, this is awkward, let's make a joke about it or else this is too heavy" kind of sentiment.

It might be overly optimistic; I don't know as I don't know your situation very well, but I would take the message inside the card with more weight than the printing. After all, one he bought, but the other he wrote himself.

Quailboy 09-24-2009 11:07 PM

The thing is..I'm pretty sure nobody has talked to him, let alone about what happened to me.

Burkhardesu, that is really really weird, hopefully it works out fine.

I cracked a smile when I first read it, then remembered that he dosen't/shouldn't know about it..

What's your drinking accident?

Maybe you should double check then. Someone could have let slip- things can work surprising distances on the grapevine or even perhaps told him outright if it was something very serious and they thought he ought to know. Or it could just be coincidence.

Anyway regardless of the weird card, after a whole year of not talking, sending you his number seems like an offer, and it's up to you to weigh the pros and cons of taking it and how genuine you feel it is.

Yeah..the thing is, I hate him, yet I still love the guy, it's nuts.

I think I'm going to call him tonight..tell him about everything that's been going on..the fact that he can just give me his number shows that he wants to get back on track with me..

spoonybard 09-24-2009 11:23 PM

Based on the part about being,"just like your father", this may be an opportunity to change HIM this time around. He may be willing, based on the fact that he wants you to call.:)

Yeah, that's family for you. You can hate them with very concrete reason to, but damned if you don't keep checking back in. *wry*

You might as well give it a whirl. Just keep a cool head about it.

I already know that he wont change, that's a fact, he's a drunk and always will be. It's been at the same level forever though, no increase in the habit..he's kind of a dick when drunk, that's about it though. Nothing too bad, he can be a fun drunk too...

Columbine: I think I'll call him tonight or tomorrow.

I'm late asking, but you mean you think the text on the front was cause of your drinking accident that you mention?

If so....
I'm inclined to think it's not related to that at all, and purely coincidental.

Ryzorian 09-25-2009 01:58 AM

Might as well try, you will allways wonder "what if?" if you don't.

orewasenshi 09-25-2009 02:33 AM

Do what you feel is right :3

I mean, you know what happened with me and my brother, but I still have that unconditional love for him, y'know?

Whatever you choose to do, you know I'm always behind you<3

Love youuuu<3333

This, that's one of my rules, never sit and wonder "What if?"

TyreaL 09-25-2009 12:25 PM

u know u remind of a movie .. ( The Astronaut Farmer ) he was talking about what u r gonna be when u grow up , and you are like " I don't be like my dad" and this stuff and you keep telling yourself that you will be something else , but you end up just like him ..

so it's not your fault if by any chance act like him .. it's in your blood .. that's " inheritance "

^_^

good... the way I see it is, regardless of anything else, he is a person.. I put huge negative utility on the thought of not being able to talk to my father ever again (even if he was the biggest a** in the world).. you always have the option to stop talking to him later, but if you give up the opportunity to talk things out now, who knows?

but in the end you will be the that decides the course of your life ..

there is a saying " who looks like his dad isn't guilty "

^_^

.............I seriously have (almost) no idea what you said.

I'm sorry , I didn't make it clear because some of the words didn't show up .. therefore I'm sorry .. I edited my reply .. ^_^

okay , what I was trying to say is ..

Inheritance decides whether u resemble your dad or someone else (mother , uncle ..etc) .. whether in the characteristic side or in a biological side ( the face , the look .. etc)

but in the end you are who you are .. with faith , understanding , reasonableness , positivity and optimism u can be whoever u want ..

hope that u got my point .. and I'm sorry not clarifying my point ..

^_^

Innocence is bliss my friend. Keep it up.

Because I am my fathers blood doesn't mean I inherit his outstanding desire to drink every night.

But you could inherit something else that would lead you to having his same desire, so you have to be careful about it.

Well if your parents were alcoholics it would give you a biological tendency to becoming one if you began to drink.

Yep .. that's why I was saying that ..

Despite the fact that Inheritance decides whether u resemble your dad or someone else (mother , uncle ..etc) .. whether in the characteristic side or in a biological side ( the face , the look .. etc)

Just Smile my friend ^_^
