Multilingual ability as a competitive edge
Translated into English as follows: In our daily life , there are a lot of problems we have to solve. The best way is to look for the answers on the internet. However, the information related to our question is likely not in Chinese , it maybe in Japanese, English or French . In fact, when we search data /answers on Youtube, the answers we get from inputing an English word is different from inputing Japanese or Chinese. Or, in case you don't know any Chinese, it means you can't use sea-like volume of information on the website Baidu.com. So, we can see that if we only know English ,we only can get information from those English websites or database; if we know more languages such as Chinese and Japanese, then we get two more groups of information for our purpose. We therefore can say that the grasp of more foreign languages is the key which makes us outsmart others in the epoch of internet |
At least in Japan, one who depend on Internet serch for knowledge or information gets no respect. |

Are you referring to people who use the Internet to find information on only one source? Or people who cross-reference the information they find on various sites to confirm the information?
The Internet is one of the best places to obtain information from. Yes, there is a lot of fraudulent data out there, but its pretty easy to filter that out. Without the use of the Internet, I'd say we'd all be a lot more ignorant than we are today. To say you do not respect someone who uses the Internet to obtain information comes off as quite haughty. |
I wish I was multi lingual.
I never did like my French teacher:vsign: |

As it is not always true one who have many books or super computer is intelligent person, internet or multilingual capability would not necessarily decide people's value. That is why professors forbid students from referring to Wikipedia for their works. |

What about google scholar though? |

In my case, I just like learning languages, because I find that interesting in and of itself. I would like to learn Japanese,Thai, German, and Mandarin. People don't know why, but I just do; it's one way for me to get my kicks. Either way, the only way for a person to learn a language different from their own is the desire to do so; it's something you have to want. If not, you won't get anything out of it since you won't have the necessary motivation to persist. |
Same as language , more precisely speaking our mother tongue , set the boundary of what we are capable of thinking of ; foreign language ability now limits the extent and depth of the information we can access and therefore what we can think of . It is a pity that there are some people there still ignorant of the rapid changes happen around them .
