Japanese Canines?

I'm not talking about dogs, just to be clear. :)

Anyways, I came across a video on Youtube showing how to draw manga mouths, and at one point the person filming says something about "fangs" in manga being based off of real life. Because apparently, Japanese people tend to have more pronounced/pointy canine teeth. After seeing it, I searched the web but couldn't find anything confirming this. So could anyone here tell me if this is true or not? By the way, I'm not Japanese, but I do have teeth like this.

Here's the video. The part I'm talking about is at 9:50.

I guess I'll make a poll as well...

I would say i'm part Japanese and have pointy canines.

I thought pointy canines were just common anyway. But Marc Crilley lived in Japan at some point and does have a Japanese Wife so maybe he just noticed this common feature in Japanese people first.

I thought everyone's canines were pointy unless chipped or worn down with age. In biology the canine incisors are described as canines specifically because they are sharp for tearing rather than chewing. But this has me wondering if there are gradients of sharpness that are genetic.

I agree. I thought all canines were supposed to be sharp as well, otherwise they could just be called incisors. Perhaps it varies, but I don't see any evolutionary reason why any set of people would develop sharper or duller canines these days. It's not as though survival or reproduction would depend on it at all.

I don't know. I guess I'll just try Googling it harder. :)

I just assumed some people had pointy canines and other didn't, not having anything to do with race. I'm not Asian but I have pointy canines. My husband is also not Asian but his canines are not pointy like mine.

My son is half Japanese and he has canines like me. Not pointy.

You're right, it doesn't have anything to do with race.

Lol, my husband likes it too :) He calls them my vampire fangs. I've never been fond of them but I'm starting not to care anymore. The main reason I don't like them much is that tt sure hurts though when you bite your cheek with pointy canines, lol.
