Is Wearing Make Up Good or Bad?

I have noticed that quite a few males on this forum wear make up, and obviously female's to.

Is make up a good thing, or does it portray a false sense of beauty?

darksyndrem 12-12-2009 01:16 AM

Hmmm...good question. But I think it depends on how much make up is worn, and what kind of make up. I think some make up can really compliment people's face, and look really good on them. While others will use way too much makeup, or simply obnoxious make up, and it just looks...ew.

xYinniex 12-12-2009 01:24 AM

makeup is used to enhance beauty, thats what i think as a girl. you use makeup thats best for your eyes. or you work around them to make it look better. =) Don't just cake it on, blend blend blend.

If you clean off all your makeup before bed, and don't leave makeup on your pillow you're fine. You leave it on, it gets into your pores- you get spots.

I don't think it portrays a false sense of beauty if you're doing it right. =), but then again, makeup is another form of creativeness, its not a false sense of beauty if you're not lying to anyone because most women wear makeup for the fun of it =)

I'd have to agree to that, most girls who wear make up usually use too much. Though a little eye shadow here and there is nice. Most girls have great eyes as it is, so they don't really need it.

I'd suggest girls to stick to putting eyeshadow on their eyelids.. : P

But I agree. I do like a bit of mascara/eyeliner or something.. just to enhance the color and definition of the eyes.

But this also means no foundation, no tanning lotion, no powder, no lipgloss, no lipstick, no black tears down your cheeks. If you dunno HOW to use it - just don't use it. ^^v

Of course, what did you think I meant? Eye shadow/liner is used to enhance the appearance of the eye. But most girls have amazing eyes as it is, so they don't need the extra attraction.

I was referring you to saying ''a little eyeshadow here and there''. -_-'' Thanks for killing my joke, man.

But I agree with you whole heartedly. Enhancing is good - covering up is bad.

thats just generalising girls, however nice you're being,
Not all girls have amazing eyes. =) lol.

Girls put makeup on for fun. =) they're going to have mistakes every once in a while. =) thats how you learn to put it on better. =)

I can't stand that black thick lipstick!

I'm with you and Kanji, a small touch of black around the hazier eyes works a treat, although girls like xYinniex who has the most gorgeous eyes really does not need anything as they are so naturally beautiful.

Eye makeup is the only kind of makeup I usually wear. If I don't have any makeup around my eyes, I look tired and...well...bland.

And as Yinnie said, its fun. :'D

I saw a side photo of you recently without make up.

You have a nice tanned complexion..

I think the tired look around the eyes comes from not enough sleep, diet, not enough exercise and alcohol..

I went through a recent period of many late nights, to much alcohol, not enough exercise, and not enough sleep socialising over drinks nightly at my place.. It definitely makes you feel like shite in the mornings..

If I sleep well, eight hours, wake up, healthy brekkie, shower, good walk, and another walk in the evening, the next morning feels great..

I'm a male and have never worn make up and I think I never will, I see no point to do that. Now when it comes to girls, I like the natural look they get with no makeup, but I don't really mind if they wear it at all.

I am 41, and all male through and through.

I am very much part of the "natural look" generation, and having said that, i grew up with Gf's and a Mother that delighted in pastering themselves with the stuff.

My mother was a manager at CLINIQUE headquarters in Sydney, so she always had a huge stockpile in the top of the wardrobe, as well as other brands which other compnay consultatants would bareter with each other. My sister and her friends were always raiding Mum's bedroom wardrobe!

I always got a kiss on the cheek from Aunties which meant a huge impregnation of heavy pink or red lips.

It was always a turn off for me getting with a girl who was wearing lipstick as the taste was just to waxy.

It also annoyed me upon venturing out how I had to wait an extra hour for my partner/s to finish with their make up.

I am now involved with a partner is is a very naturally artistic type form Seoul, and I am happy to say that she is not into make up and having long wet kisses just make it all the merrier, even though I now have to contend with the tatse of Kim Chi!

My culture was definitely a macho man's one, the men were men, they were tough, and the women were delicate and beautiful creatures. Make up was definitely a women's thing.

Still, a guy that wears make up doesn't hurt my feelings, and all the best to him if that is what he likes.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of make-up. It makes me feel heavy and not myself.

At school, I see all these girls applying make-up or putting it on heavily. I just don't understand why they need to cover their faces up. I think it wastes a lot of time and energy; no offense to the people who do wear make-up.

I don't think make up is a bad thing by any means. I don't wear it myself though but that's because I can't stand having anything on my face. It just feels gross to me. I do however, think that it can look really good on some people be them male or female. There can definitely be too much make up though. When people wear too much I think it does the opposite of what it's intended to do and just makes them look awful.

I think make up looks best when it's used to enhance ones features and not cover up everything in an attempt at pseudo plastic surgery. When people where so much make up that you suffer a big shock when they take it off then that's when I think it's too much. Plus, I think make up tends to look better when it's lighter. However, I do love the fun eye shadow colors and things that people do but only when it's down well and not by someone who clearly doesn't know what they're doing.

xyzone 12-12-2009 08:57 AM

I don't know, girls will wear whatever they want. But it doesn't work for guys in general so it's a moot point to ask. Some celeb in costume or something like that, I wouldn't count that in the same league as what women wear everyday.

What does that mean? You think she's not wearing makeup?

xyzone 12-12-2009 09:34 AM

I'm saying it's at least undetermined. Nevermind because she looks good or whatever, but evidently is at least wearing eyelash stuff.

But on second thought, yes, that's right. Prove she isn't wearing it.

We seem to have a communication breakdown here, afterall, Josh is asking you the question.

By the way, what's the sheilas name in your animated sig photo?

My point exactly. That's why I asked what posting the pic was about.

I can however prove her point of view on the subject, unlike you who's only argument is that because she's female and look's attractive she is obviously wearing makeup and it's unthinkable to believe she's not.
No strawman arguments, please.

In the underworld, we call by the codename Lady Sansirou. Nobody else knows this.

(Notice how the picture I posted is of her holding a trophy? Believe it or not she didn't win that for wearing makeup).

"No strawman arguments, please."

Exactly, stop the strawmen. Nobody said she won anything for wearing makeup.

Anyways, obviously you can't prove it. But like I said, she evidently is wearing at least eyelash stuff in that particular pic. It doesn't matter what you believe without knowing for sure, apart from that it's evident. It also doesn't matter how sporty or athletic a girl is, they tend to be vain no matter what, especially if they have something to work with. To women in general, not being pretty is like for men looking weak. That's just how it is.

Let`s try to stay on topic here...

And to do just that;

I personally think makeup is a waste of time, a waste of money, and a waste of youth for anyone under 35 or so.

The makeup itself is bad for your skin, and the cleansers used to get it all off your face every day is also bad for your skin. It`s a lose-lose situation. Girls start wearing makeup because they THINK they need it to look "more adult", and then after a year or two of it really NEED the makeup because their skin starts to get crappy. 10 years of makeup, and it`s pretty much impossible to get back to good skin.

I always find it funny as women around me all wear makeup to make themselves look younger (they`re 25~35), but end up just looking like older women trying to make themselves look younger. :P
People ALWAYS guess that I`m much younger than I am because I pretty much never wear any makeup. (Limited to events where no makeup would be flat out weird, like a wedding, etc.)

Seriously, makeup screws your skin up in the long term and the cleansers to take it off increase skin ageing and wrinkles. I am so so very glad that I didn`t start wearing makeup now that I see all the girls I went to school with who have faces they`re terrified to show without a good coating to cover the blemishes and wrinkles.

I depends on what products you use. Not all products will make your skin look horrible. It's also not only about cleansing your skin after makeup, but about making sure that it has the best opportunity to get over the little 'makeup attack' you exposed it to. If you cleanse your face with a mild makeup remover, wash after with a mild facial soap and then finish off with a moisturizer - then it's no problem really. I'd say it's much worse for those who DON'T remove their makeup every day.

PockyMePink 12-12-2009 04:16 PM

I think make-up is fine. Not everyone looks amazing without the enhancement, and not everyone feels "complete" without the enhancement. Also, for some, it's loads of fun to put on.

As for males, I think it's fine as well.....if they're comfortable with it, let them do it. My bf used to wear make-up to hide the scars on his face, and I see nothing wrong with that (I don't see anything wrong with one wearing it for fun, either).

ozkai 12-12-2009 05:26 PM

Pocky, a guy with scars on his face qualifies him for the REAL Aussie male position.

ilovedaisuke7 12-13-2009 03:36 AM

I look like man without make-up.
But all I wear is mascara and eyeliner.
The occasional lip-gloss if I'm feeling sassy. XD

thcuteness 12-13-2009 05:11 AM

i personally see nothing wrong in wearing a little make up every once in awhile although i personally never do to often.

ozkai 12-13-2009 08:37 AM

Right...

Some photos of you all with make up on or off for comparison would be grand:)

orewasenshi 12-13-2009 11:26 AM

I personally think there's too many girls who use WAY too much make-up. And the only guys I think should stick to make-up is the jrockers and the feminine ones xD

I usually only wear eyeliner, a little bit of eye shadow, and VERY little mascara since my eyelashes are full of volume already xD

If you want before and after pictures, here you go:

Before[with only eyeliner on the top of my eyes]

After[NO, I'M NOT NUDE. I'm covering up, sankuu. And I have only eyeliner and mascara on :3]

mercedesjin 12-13-2009 11:29 AM

Ultimately, the purpose of makeup is to create an illusion... so yeah, it does create a false sense of beauty. I personally don't like it. I try not to, but I secretly judge the people I see who've plastered their face with makeup.
